Lynn Scott Dyes

Lynn Scott Dyes passed away on May 10, 2019 at the age of 86 in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on February 3, 1933. Lynn married the love of his life, Carolyn Traylor Dyes on October 2, 1955 at Bethany Christian Church. He is survived by daughters Lynda Dyes Purnell, husband Brooks, Carrie Dyes Freund, husband Gordon, and Grandchildren, Shannon Purnell Owen (Lee), Jennifer Purnell Kreisel (Jeff), Valerie Purnell Trafton (Chance), Jessica Purnell Dickens (Brad), Amy Dyes, Robert Dyes, Nicole Freund and Natalie Freund, and Great Grandchildren, Avery Owen, Abby Jo Kreisel, Ruth Kreisel, Kate Owen, Laynie Trafton, Brooks Dickens, Sloan Trafton and Betsie Kreisel. He is also survived by his brother John Clifton Dyes and wife Allena.

 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Karolina Dyes, his father, Fay Dyes, his wife, Carolyn Traylor Dyes, and his son, Warren Dyes.

 

Lynn had a very successful 20 year career in the Air Force. He graduated from Vance AFB flight school at the top of his class in September of 1955. He flew numerous planes but between the C-123 and his favorite, the C-130, he flew 480 missions in two tours in Vietnam.  After retiring from the Air Force in 1974, he worked for an advertising company for 14 years.  Lynn was very involved at Bethany Christian Church as an Elder and served on several committees and men’s programs.  He was very active in the Experimental Aircraft Association serving as President and on the flight line during the Young Eagles flights.  Lynn was also active in his community by serving in various positions within his civic association. He was a precinct chairman of the Republican Party and acted as an Election Judge.  He loved being with family and friends. He always had a joke or funny story and loved talking about airplanes.

 

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 20th at 10 am at Forest Park Lawndale with a Memorial Service at 1 pm at Bethany Christian Church.
