William Stafford Borden Jr.

William Stafford Borden Jr. was born November 3, 1946 and died August 23, 2012 after a long illness. He was a native of Houston, born at St. Joseph's hospital, and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior early in life.

Bill began his professional career while in college working for Borden Brothers Realty. He then served as vice president of real estate development for North Shore Oaks Corporation from 1969 through 1977 and began his own real estate brokerage, appraisal and consulting business in 1977.

He had a strong interest in civic activities and began his lifelong community, political, and charitable involvement as a teenager. Bill had a passion for conservative public policy principles. He was president of the Young Republican Federation Chapter at the University of Houston from 1966-1969 and began his active involvement in the state and Harris County Republican Party in the late 1960s serving as Republican Precinct Chair from 1969-2008.

He was a member of the State Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas from 1982-1992 and was honored with the Volunteer of the Year award from the state Republican Party in 1999. Bill was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia in 2000 and was a Presidential Elector in 2004, serving as one of 34 Presidential Electors from the state of Texas that year.

In 1981 he was president of the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in 2002. He received the Mr. Bellaire Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award in 1991 and was honored twice as an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1980 and 1981 by the United States Junior Chamber "Jaycees". He was president of the Bellaire Unit of the from 1980-1981, past president of the Bellaire Historical Society and actively involved in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day MDA Telethon in Bellaire throughout the 1980s. Bill was presented with a Life Saving Heroism Award from the Houston Fire Department in 1978 and a Public Service Award in 1977 for volunteer work with the Houston Independent School District.

Most importantly, Bill was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend. He was a man of strong character and always a positive, encouraging father. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye in his last few years. He loved nothing more than watching his grandson Robert play baseball and granddaughter Sara dance.

He was preceded in death by his parents William S. Borden Sr. and Sara Barclift Borden, brother Robert Barclift Borden and sister Beth Borden Long. Bill is survived by his devoted and loving wife Nancy, son Robert Barclift Borden II, daughter-in-law Heidi Sue Borden and his beloved grandchildren Robert Barclift Borden III and Sara Lori Jannelle Borden.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7, at 11:00 am at the Second Baptist Church Sanctuary, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston with Dr. James DeLoach officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Baptist Church.
