Betty Jane Denton, 98, passed away in Missouri City, Texas on October 22, 2019.  She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 31, 1920.

She began her career with Tidewater (Getty) in Tulsa, OK which is now known as Chevron and transferred to Houston in 1956. She retired in 1983 and began volunteering at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, Twice Blessed resale shop and CAP’s. She was an active member of the Ragtimer’s band playing the Banjo, Ukulele & wash board.  She was a devoted Christian woman and played in the Handbell choir and was a member of the prayer shawl group. She enjoyed traveling & gardening.  BETTY loved all of God’s creatures and many of her friends would bring her turtles that she would keep in her backyard pond.  Always supportive and family oriented.

She is survived by her nephews Steve Durham - Evanston, IL and Jerry Durham - Houston, TX; 7 great nieces and nephews Christie Houston and her husband Johnny Houston, Robert Durham, Christopher Durham, Vanessa Durham, Jacob Durham, Noah Durham & Ben Durham, and 15 Great-Great nieces and nephews and her cat Foxy.

Services will be on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Christ Church of Sugar Land (3300 Austin Parkway) beginning with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m.   Burial will take place on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The family would like to acknowledge her care givers Ava Dever and the employees at Optimum Personal Care Facility in Missouri City, Texas. Ava spent several years with Betty providing transportation and companionship to her while we worked. Ava was a God send to our family and we are grateful God put us together. To the wonderful & compassionate care givers at OPC thank you so much for taking such good care of Betty right through to her final days of life here on this earth. God Bless.

Tribute

You were my rock, my anchor, my confidant. You were generous, caring, honest, elegant, fastidious, strong, hopeful, selfless. You taught me many things in life sometimes through tough love but I always knew you were right. My love and compassion for all of God’s creatures surely came from you. If I could sit with God I would thank him for lending you to me he has definitely blessed me.  I have lost my beautiful Aunt, friend companion, adviser and mentor. I am so honored to have been her niece. I am grieving for the amazing relationship I had with her. Until we meet again I love you. ~ Christie
