In Memory of
Dorothy Dell Reyes
-

Dorothy Dell Howell Reyes, 95, passed away on March 25, 2025. She was born July 8, 1929, in Gonzales County, Texas, to Grover Howell and Myrtle Freeman Howell.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Gus Reyes.

After graduating from Gonzales High School, Dorothy moved to San Antonio where she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. She and her roommate frequently dined at the local bowling alley café, known for its fantastic Texas chili. It was during one of those visits that she met fellow diner Gus Reyes. They married in June of 1948 and one year later welcomed the first of three sons. They settled in Houston to raise their sons and to open Gus' chiropractic practice. Dorothy managed the office until their retirement.

She loved her family, especially the grands and great-grands. She credited her close friendships with neighbors and the Whataburger coffee bunch with rescuing her from boredom and loneliness after Gus' passing. She was fiercely independent.

Dorothy is survived by sons Wayne Reyes and wife Karen, Dr. Alan Reyes and wife Dawn, and Homer Reyes and wife Julie. She was known as Grammy to granddaughters Katie Pearce and husband Bill, and Allison Hinojosa and husband Spencer; great-grandchildren Kourtney, Owen, and Cullen. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, wonderful neighbors, and special Whataburger friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1st at the Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Dorothy's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I got the opportunity to be with her at Grover's house for one of the reunions. She was so comical and fun loving.
I thought her features reminded me of my Granny; Vera.
I had to go in the bathroom and cry because of that reminder. I was Vera's little girl. I gathered myself and went back out to talk to Dorothy some more. I just couldn't stop staring at her. She was gorgeous! And so lovely! I was so happy to talk to her a few hours. I just fell in love with her personality and humour. What a wonderful person. I know she will be missed. She's celebrating with Granny and her family and friends up in Heaven now. I believe that. God Bless You All!💖💖💖

I will always remember Aunt Dorothy and her beautiful smile and uplifting laughter. She was one of a kind. I always enjoyed every moment being around her. She was a very special lady. She was so kind to my mother Billie Howell calling her and sending her cards.
She will be missed but will be forever in our hearts. I pray God will give you comfort and peace in your hearts during this difficult time in your lives. She loved her family and we all loved her.
