In Memory of
George K. Stevens
-

George Kirkland Stevens died peacefully on June 26, 2018 in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of sixty-three.

George is survived by his wife, Susan Stevens; his children, Laura and Ross Stevens; and his brother, Charles Stevens. He is preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and George Stevens, and brothers Philip and Guy Stevens.

George was born on September 2, 1954 in Lake Jackson, Texas to Elizabeth Matchett Stevens and George Munson Stevens. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He married Susan, his childhood sweetheart in 1977. After moving to Houston, he began a career in home building where he worked for Emerald Homes, David Weekly Homes, Coventry Homes, and Houston Post Tension. In 1986 Susan and George brought their daughter Laura into the world and in 1989, their son Ross. His children remember him as a funny, devoted, genuine, patient, and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and happiness.

George was an accomplished home builder and lead the construction of the showcase home for a national home builders convention, which was featured in Better Homes and Gardens. He was an avid reader who was extremely well versed in cooking, technology, construction, and endless random facts. He loved to barbecue, and spent countless hours reading and watching videos to help him perfect his craft.

An informal visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 29th, from 5:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. with a scripture reading at 7:00p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30th, at 11:00a.m. Both will take place at Sacred Heart Chapel in Richmond, Texas. Following the funeral service, there will be a graveside service at Morton Cemetery, and then a luncheon at the Sacred Heart Family Life Center. Father Thomas Hoang will officiate the services. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ali Denktas, Dr. Kenneth Gould, and the dedicated caregivers who cared for him during his brief illness.
