LaVerne Winters Tedder, 80, passed away on March 6, 2021 in Houston, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 12, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to James Henderson Winters and Evelyn Birmingham Winters.
LaVerne attended Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she met the love of her life at a school dance. She and Wayne were married on August 12,1960. She worked for the local school districts in California and
LaVerne is survived by her daughter, Tanya Tedder Straka of Houston, Texas; son Ron Tedder and wife Dawn of Katy, Texas; two grandsons she adored - Anthony Wayne Tedder and Michael Andrew Tedder of Houston, Texas; Sister-in-Law Rita Tedder of Vernal, Utah; Sister-in-Law Winona Williams of Farmington, New Mexico; nieces and nephews she was so close to and loved so dearly; and her two dogs, Layla and Crimson, who gave her so much love and company; wonderful neighbors; loving friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Granvil Wayne Tedder; and her brother, James Dwayne Winters.
Due to Covid19, the family is having a private memorial service.
The family has decided on a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in LaVerne’s name be made to the charity of your choice.

Sorry for your loss but you know your mom is happy to be with your dad again. 80 years is a pretty long life and I'm sure she cherished each day here on earth. Now she gets to be an angel watching over you guys. Be strong and happy for her
Laverne was a longtime friend from our years with SBISD. She was a kind person, full of life & full of fun, positive, and always helpful when anyone needed help. You will be missed Laverne. Rest in peace.Z

You taught me so much, including how to be a strong lady and handle life without you and dad somehow. I miss you both so very much, but feel your strength and love with me. You know all those special talks and memories we shared, and those will always stay with me. I love you and dad more than I can say, and miss you both so much. I met the Tedders at a basketball game at TAMU-CC, formerly UCC, where Wayne Tedder and I both attending University of Corpus Christi. He was there years before me and we met through the alumni department. When I heard of his extensive involvement in sports at UCC and successful career in sports, I nominated him to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor and he was chosen. LaVerne and Wayne were so thrilled and I was pleased he was chosen. They were a committed couple with a love for their family. I kept up with LaVerne after Wayne passed. She was lovely and delightful, so happy to have met her and also her husband Wayne.
