In Memory of
Maria Socorro Go Castillo
-

Maria Socorro Go Castillo of Houston, Texas passed away at the age of 79 on February 9, 2024. She was born on February 17, 1944 in in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines to Viterbo Go and Socorro Llora.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, then moved to the United States in 1968. She met her future husband, Jaime Castillo, in a post office in San Francisco according to family lore. They married in Colombia, Jaime’s home country, in 1970 and settled in Houston. Socorro raised their 2 children while working as a senior research assistant for almost 30 years at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Upon her retirement in 1999, consistent with her bubbly personality and need to contribute, she took on a second career as an educator.  Socorro worked as a permanent substitute at Aldine ISD where she taught bilingual students. In her free time, Socorro enjoyed traveling with family and friends, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren and grand-dogs. She was loved dearly by all who knew her and will be remembered as the original “Alpha Tita.”

Socorro is survived by her daughter, Rosario (husband Julio), son, Rolando (wife Loretta), grandsons, Nico DeLeon and Marco DeLeon, brother, Victorino Go, and countless nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and extended family members.

Socorro was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Antonia Celeste, and brother, Viterbo Bolcan.

Services will be held on February 19, 2024 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Rosary will be at 10:30 am and Mass at 11:00 am officiated by her brother-in-law, Father Pedro Castillo.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the charity of your choice.

Our family would like to especially thank the loving individuals who ensured Socorro had the best care in her final weeks, and to all friends and family members who were supportive and helpful in innumerable ways.
