Mildred Carrow Whitaker, 79, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

She was born in Cardenas, Cuba on September 28, 1943, to James Edward Carrow and Manuela “Sylvestra” Miranda Carrow. 

She was a resident of Baytown for 70 years and an active member of Missouri Street Church of Christ for over 40 years. 

Mildred enjoyed listening to music, fishing, camping, gardening, making Jewelry, watching the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros and doting on her granddaughters. 

She was a loving Christian wife, mother and grandmother who was an excellent cook and seamstress. She had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and never turned away a stray dog.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Berwid O. Whitaker Sr., her brother, Norman E. Carrow Sr., sister-in-law, Suzette Carrow and Stepfather James G. “Hank” Farris. 

Survivors include daughters, Jacqueline Whitaker of Baytown and Deneen Whitaker Coffey and her husband, Michael Coffey of Crosby; son, Berwid O. "Beau" Whitaker, Jr. of Baytown; granddaughters, Lauren-Elysse Coffey Caldwell and her husband Nathan Caldwell of Rockville, Maryland, Caroline Coffey of San Marcos, Texas and Nephew Norman “Bubba” Carrow Jr., and wife Theresa Carrow of Baytown. Other surviving family members include Elizabeth “Lizza” Coffey of Austin, Texas, sister-in-law Cheryl Wade and her husband Stephen Wade and niece Simone Wade, of San Antonio, Texas. 

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at Missouri Street Church of Christ in Baytown with Mr. David Smith officiating. 

Prior to the memorial service, a private burial service will be held at 10:00 am., at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown on Monday, August 14.  

Pallbearers will be Jackie Ickes, Joe Ickes, Jerry Ickes, Michael Coffey, Norman "Bubba" Carrow, Jr., Nathan Caldwell, and Berwid “Beau” Whitaker Jr.  Honorary Pall bearers include Thomas Kelley and Van Vanmeter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Missouri Street Church of Christ Food Pantry in memory of Mildred Whitaker. Online donations are accepted at mostchurch.org or Checks can be mailed to Missouri St. Church of Christ P.O. 4295 Baytown, Texas 77522

Arrangements are under the direction of Beresford Funeral & Cremation Services in Houston, Texas.
