In Memory of
Robert Leroy Wells
-

Our loved one, Robert Leroy Wells, went home to be with Jesus on November 27, 2020.  He passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side.

He was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Adrian and Nina Wells on August 8, 1935. He grew up playing and loving the game of football, where he played on a state championship team in 1951. He moved to Kalkaska, Michigan for his senior year of high school, played basketball and track, and graduated in 1953. He then served in the Air Force, played college football and had three children while living in California.  After returning to Michigan, he married his wife Beverly (Belcher) Wells who he met in high school.  He spent several years teaching and coaching and had 2 more children.  He began an exciting career in the oil field in 1976, which moved him to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1977.  He quickly thrived and began working with Red Adair Co. and moved to Houston, TX in 1979, fighting oil well fires and teaching oil well safety classes.  Throughout this career, he worked for several different oil well blowout companies that allowed him to travel and teach in Norway, Scotland, Nigeria and many days in the North Sea.  He then continued in environmental services, traveling the world, until he returned to teaching and coaching, and another football state championship, before he retired in 2005.  He loved being outside, whether it be fishing, hunting or by his pool!  He loved his family and grandchildren and stayed busy attending all of their activities. He never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and a candy in his pocket. He loved his sweets, his family and friends and Jesus!

He is preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Jim Wells, and survived by his sister Sally Richardson of Kalkaska, MI.  He is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly 54 years, Beverly, and five children:  Kathy; Rob Jr (Vickie); Rich; Matt (Lisa) and Missy McKay (Danny). He was blessed to have 9 beautiful grandchildren, 7 great grand children and 2 great, great grandchildren.  His legend carries on in his namesake, covering 5 generations! He will be truly missed but lovingly remembered!

Memorial service pending.

Bob was a wonderful neighbor always ready to lend a hand! He was an even better friend. I’m sad because I can’t ask him what’s for breakfast anymore. I know Heaven is a more jolly place now that he’s there!

We never met you, but feel like we know you. Haven't seen Bev in many years, but seems like yesterday. Blessings to the family. And peace through years of memories. With love.

Bob will be greatly missed. He was always a happy, upbeat man. He'd always answer the phone, "Hi Neighbor!" when he saw my name on the caller ID. We were blessed to have Bob and Bev as neighbors for nearly 25 years, and never were concerned when we traveled because we knew they were watching out for us in our absence.
Bob impacted a number of young people's lives with his dedication to Special Olympics. My son and I had the honor and privilege to volunteer with him a few times and always came away with even more respect for him.
Rest in peace, Neighbor.
