In Memory of
Billy Jeff Campbell
-

Jeff, as he was called by his friends, was an inspiration to everyone who met him.  He poured his life into other people as a husband, father, pastor, teacher, friend, and neighbor.  He loved people and would introduce himself to strangers to make them feel welcomed and loved.  His love for Jesus Christ was reflected throughout his life.

Jeff was born May 27, 1934, in Searcy, Arkansas to Jeff D. Campbell and Inas Campbell.  He began his ministry at the age of 19 as an ordained minister at Levy Baptist Church in N Little Rock, AR.  He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University. At Ouachita, he met the love of his life and married Ruth Ann Campbell.   Jeff and Ruthie have been married over 65 years and shared an incredible life together.  He then completed his Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Jeff continued his education by obtaining a second master’s degree in Psychology from St Mary’s University and at age 72 completing his PhD.

After completing his seminary degree, Jeff became a chaplain at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.  He continued his ministry as a senior pastor for churches in Lepanto, Arkansas, San Antonio, and Houston.  Jeff then joined a capital stewardship company and advised pastors at hundreds of churches throughout the United States raising over $500 million dollars.

Jeff truly cared for others which was reflected in every aspect of his life.  He was always a great listener and a terrific encourager.  When you met Jeff, you felt special.  He inspired people with his faith in Jesus Christ.  He led mission trips all over the world serving and preaching.

He is preceded in death by his eldest son Jeffery Scott Campbell, his parents and his sister, Nancy.

Even though it has been many years since I have seen Brother Jeff his influence in my life is still very present. One day in November 1974 Brother Jeff and I had a talk about my salvation. And because of him and those who helped shape me through the church I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior and had the honor to have Brother Jeff baptize me. There were so many wonderful people at RPBC that mean and meant so much to our family. His absence here on earth will be felt by many but we celebrate his new life in eternity.

Jeff was our pastor at Northridge Park Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas a number of years ago.. We loved having him as our pastor and have many wonderful memories of the years that he was with us. I am deeply saddened by the news of his death. My heart aches for Ruth, their children and all the other family members as they endure this sorrow. I ask God to strenthen them daily and help them to cope.

I met Jeff at Copperfield Church, Houston. He loved sharing his overseas ministry journey with us. Whenever I see him in the church premise he never failed to say, “You made my day!". Thank you, Jeff, for building a path of good that everyone can follow you through. We miss you a lot. May you rest in peace.

Jeff was an amazing ambassador of Christ. Every contact with him left a 'fragrance of life': whether he was encouraging, teaching or teasing, he radiated the Gospel. His uniquely warm sense of humor could break through the clouds of any present challenge or anxiety to bring comfort and reassurance of God's love and providence.
Jeff 'walked the talk'! He will be sorely missed.
