In Memory of
Christiane Seyler Edwards
-

Christiane Seyler Edwards was born June 15, 1924 in Paris, France and passed away January 25, 2013 at the age of 88 in Houston, Texas.

Christiane was educated in France and attended Catholic school during her formative years. She often spoke of her childhood as an exercise of obedience to her parents and would point out to her children that their behavior would have never been acceptable in her childhood home. She later was employed by the United States government in Paris, France during World War II where she met her future husband Marvin. She told a harrowing tale about her days during the war in which she sought refuge in an operational U.S. tank during a bomb barrage. A U.S. soldier told her to join him in the tank. Once inside, she realized that she had been hit by shrapnel in the leg.

She maintained dual citizenship in both France and the United States which complimented her government position. Christiane and Marvin were married while Mr. Edwards was still overseas. They settled in Houston, Texas and raised their three children there. Among her favorite memories were trips taken as a family to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee, Colorado, the Grand Canyon and multiple trips overseas to Paris, Luxemburg and Belgium. She was a member of both the French Club and Italian Club. Her favorite event was Bastille Day held by the French Club every July 14 at the Hotel Sofitel. She worked part time for Foley’s department store which enabled her to pick up her children every day after school. One of her fondest memories was meeting John Wayne in downtown Houston.

She was a practicing Catholic who professed her faith in Jesus Christ which, although we mourn, gives us comfort that she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior today. She was known to her family and friends as Meme and was beloved by all.

We will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her husband Lonzo Marvin Edwards, her three children De-anna Edwards, Patricia King, her husband Gary King, Maurice Edwards, his wife Charlene Edwards, her two grandchildren Julie and David and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alex and her cousin Jossie.
