In Memory of
Henry Reding
-

Henry Reding was born to Phae and Ellis Reding on October 30, 1938 in Huntsville, Texas.  His family lived in Huntsville until they migrated to Houston to seek better employment.

Henry graduated from Reagan High School in 1957 and went on to Huntsville State College where he majored in business administration.  To help out with college financial expenses, he worked as a meat cutter and then as a gunsmith.  He often said, "he never felt like he was working."  This became his lifetime career beginning as a buyer in the sporting goods industry.  Since Sporting Goods, Inc. was a wholesale enterprise and the majority of their customers were in law enforcement and political arena, Henry developed relationships with many of Houston's high-profile citizens in departments such as Houston's Police Dept., and Sheriff's Dept.

Henry worked for Sporting Goods, Inc. for 26 years becoming Vice President until they closed in 1990. It was during this time Henry was one of 4 buyers in the USA to be chosen for an all- expense trip to Spain. After SGI closed, Henry went to work for Sportstown as District Manager, but the position only lasted a few years as Sportstown had decided to move out of the Houston market. He then was hired by Academy as General Manager until his retirement in 2008.

Henry is preceded in death by his son Donald, his brother Bob and his daughters Sandra Pearson and Karen Suominen.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laura; his daughters Janet Woolsey and Jennifer Reding and his grandsons Jordan Rogers and Dylan Suominen and his loyal companion Mandy.

Henry will be remembered for his sense of humor and his positive outlook despite his obstacles.

The family wants to thank the Bethel caregivers and the Journey of Life Hospice team, Erica and Hazel, for their service and attentiveness towards Henry. Special thanks and appreciation for all of Henry's friends who visited him at Bethel.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Kingsland Baptist Church (20555 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77450).  Visitation will be at 11am and the funeral at 12pm with a reception immediately following.  Burial will be at 2:30pm at Katy Magnolia Cemetery (6801 Franz Rd, Katy, TX 77493).
