In Memory of
Janet Elizabeth Alexander
-

Janet Elizabeth Alexander, 92, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 8, 2025 in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family.  She was born on July 11, 1932 in Louisville, Ohio to George Irey and Catherine Ebie.

Janet graduated from Canton South High School in 1950.  She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Alexander, on January 21, 1951.  They had seven children: six girls and one boy.  They moved to Houston from Southern California in 1986 and made Houston their home.  Janet loved her family fiercely and loved the Lord even more.  Many would consider her the rock that held her family together and her prayers made everything better.  Before you left her home, she would always put a “band of angels around you to get you home safe.”  She never forgot a birthday or anniversary, always sending out cards or e-mails (or writing on Facebook or sending a text with emojis in more recent years.)  Janet had a heart of gold and her kindness and compassion were unmatched.  After being around her, you would leave better than you came.

Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 74 years, James “Jim” Alexander Sr.; six of her children, Bonnie Puckett, Brenda Nitz, Jodie Orlando, James Alexander Jr. and wife Margaret, Sheryl Lee and husband Doug, and Cathy Long; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; sister Mary Lou Harr and husband Ralph; stepsister Jane Bixler; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepsister Suzanne Bixler, and her eldest daughter Yvonne Park.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Beresford Funeral Home located at 13501 Alief Clodine Road, Houston, TX 77082.

A private interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 2:15 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Upper Room at www.upperroom.org or The Arthritis Foundation at www.arthritis.org

I will always remember the times I visited my aunt in her home. We had enjoyable times, especially playing cards. I remember taking her to their local Aldi store and how much fun it was shopping with her there. All my love to her and her family.TFi

We will keep Janet in our hearts and she will be missed greatly.
I remember when I moved to Texas and found out I had a cousin Janet, who lived here in Houston. We shared alot of stories of my Aunt and her father. I really cherished how friendly and thoughtfull Janet was to me and my family.
We take comfort knowing that Janet is in heaven with God. We will keep Jim and your family in our thoughts and prayers.
