Kenneth K Kirkpatrick "Ken"

Kenneth K (Ken) Kirkpatrick, born October 24, 1924, passed away on April 6, 2021 at 96 years old. He was born in Billings, Oklahoma to Richard Faye and Bonnie Davis Kirkpatrick. While in the Army, before going overseas, he attended LSU for several classes, and played the French horn with the LSU orchestra. In WWII, he fought as a member of the 99th Division of the Army in the Battle of the Bulge, which was the largest land battle on the Western front; in Heurtgen Forest; at Elsenborn Ridge; and was assigned to occupation duty. He was wounded, awarded a Purple Star, and nominated for a Silver Star.

 

When he returned from the war in 1945, he married Grace B. Hubert. They moved to Oklahoma, where he worked as a cub reporter/photographer at the Enid Daily Eagle.  They later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with their three children where he taught at Central High School and then as a copywriter at Dowell, Inc.  They lived in El Paso, Texas for a year while Ken worked at White Sands Missle Range as a technical writer for Western Electric.

 

Ken and Grace then moved their family to Houston, where he worked for Rives, Dyke, and Company as a copywriter/account executive for a few years until he formed his own agency.

 

In December 1981, he became a Master Mason and in 1987-1988 he became Worshipful Master of Gray Lodge No. 329, AF&AM, in Houston. He is a past High Priest of Washington Chapter No. 2, Royal Arch Masons; a past Thrice Illustrious Master of Houston Council No. 1, Royal and Select Masters; and a Past Commander of Ruthven Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar of Texas. He has been awarded both the Golden Trowel and the Excaliber Award.

 

He is preceeded in death by his parents, Richard and Bonnie Kirkpatrick; his sister, Iris K. Donnell and her husband Muril W. Donnell, and his much-beloved wife of 67 years, Grace Hubert Kirkpatrick.

 

He is survived by his three children, Sharon K. Sanders, Richard C. Kirkpatrick, and Dr. Brian W, Kirkpatrick; his eight grandchildren, Sean Harris, Robyn Harris, Megan Harris, Patrick Harris, Katie Key, Caroline Kirkpatrick, Jesse Kirkpatrick, and Maria Paula Kirkpatrick; his great-grandchildren, Hayleigh O'Leary, Sawyer Harris, Taylor Harris, and James (J.T.) Key; and his nieces, Sylvia Donnell, Linda Hall, and Cynthia Boutwell and their families.

 

He will be laid to rest with his dear wife, Grace, at Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 2:00.
