In Memory of
Margaret Pace Wickwire
-

Margaret (Maggie) Pace Wickwire passed away peacefully early on April 10, 2026 in Houston, TX.  She was loved in plain and mysterious ways by many and is sorely missed in many, many ways.  She was born Margaret Lynn Pace to Marie and Elmer Pace on January 28, 1958 in Houston.  Educated in local Catholic and public schools, Maggie and her older sister Janice faced early adversity but still thrived growing up in the bayou parks of southeast Houston. They shared a private language with which they later often entertained each other.

After experimenting with different work in Houston, Maggie enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 7, 1986 and served four years active duty.  She specialized in journalism and public affairs writing, was stationed one year in South Korea and had interesting stateside assignments including a stint at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC where she made many friends.  She later served in the National Guard of Hawaii, the National Guard of Texas and the Army Reserve.  This was the days of Maggie driving solo, coast-to-coast, through deserts, using wet towels for A/C.

Maggie next obtained her bachelor’s degree in Communications/Journalism from The University of Texas - Arlington.  She later added a Paralegal certification and worked for many large and prestigious law firms in Houston.  It was at the start of her paralegal career when she met and fell in love with Mike Wickwire, an engineer with Chevron, and they married in Kingwood, TX on September 25, 2010.  She was welcomed with open arms by Mike’s large, extended family including his six siblings and their families.  Maggie had an almost savant memory for dates and always remembered and noted special days and holidays especially for all the children.  Maggie was incredibly intelligent, of strong faith, artistic, music loving, food loving, devoted to social justice in society, especially devoted and loving of pets and wild animals and un-bending in her support for protecting the earth and the environment. She especially enjoyed time with family and friends.  In recent years her artistic pursuits found more time particularly jewelry and other art projects with the grand kids.  Her love and devotion to her pets (B) and all wild animals (birds, squirrels, baby cheetahs) sustained her.  Seeing the growth of her beloved grandchildren and grand-nieces and nephews added great pleasure to Maggie’s days.

Maggie was preceded in death by her Mother and Father and her step-fatherly Jimmy Eischeid.  She is survived by her loving husband Mike Wickwire of Kingwood, TX; her beloved sister Janice Blakely and brother-in-law Justin Blakely of Springtown, TX; step-daughters Michelle Dusing (and Nate Dusing) of Dripping Springs, TX and Stacey Thornton (and Scott Thornton) of Driftwood, TX; beloved grandchildren Lyla Dusing, Eva Dusing, Zoey Thornton and Bryce Thornton; Uncle Robert Nicklas of Springfield MO; Nieces Kristi Winton and Sonya Campbell both of Briar TX and Justine Pomroy of Arlington TX; her loved Great Niece Eisley Adams and Great Nephews James Shipley, Lennon Pomroy and Levi Pomroy; cousins including Gary Moore and his kids Kristina Powell, Becky Young and Brandon Moore. Wickwire in-laws include Jim and Marylou Wickwire of Seattle, WA; Bob and Patti Wickwire of Haden, ID; Richard and Carol Wickwire of Ellensburg, WA; John and Joy Wickwire (John pre-deceased) of Seattle, WA; Mary and Bob Nelson (Bob pre-deceased) of Ephrata, WA and Dan and Gail Wickwire of Vancouver, WA.

Maggie asked:  No flowers, Plant Trees!
