In Memory of
Oria Marion Tracy McKenzie
-

Oria Marion Tracy McKenzie was 48 years old when she passed on August 4th, 2022, in Buffalo, New York, USA. She was born in Georgetown, Guyana on June 18,1974.

In September 1976, at the age of two (2), Oria accompanied her parents and sister, Leona, to Havana, Cuba, where her Dad was stationed as a Diplomat in the Guyana Embassy. There Oria received her Early Childhood, Elementary, and part of her Junior High School Education at the British run School for Children of Diplomats. At the age of eleven in 1985, Oria returned to Guyana at the end of her father’s diplomatic assignment. She then received the main part of her High School Education at the St. Stanislaus College and Bishop’s High School, two of Guyana’s top High Schools. She migrated with her siblings and mother to Texas,
USA in 1990 and briefly attended Memorial High School in Spring Branch before entering the University of Houston, from where, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.

Oria then worked with several Companies in fields related to her academic qualifications, including the petrochemical industry. These included “FBC Chemical Corporation", Buffalo, NY, as a Chemical Sales Representative; “Isle Chemical, LLC", Buffalo, NY as a Safety and Regulatory Specialist; “Thar Extracts”, NY, as a Laboratory Manager; “Ineas Oxide Limited", League City, Texas, as a Technical Services Specialist; “Arizona Chemical”, Savannah, Georgia, as a Technical Services Chemist; and most of all: “Nynas USA” Inc., as a Regional Technical Services Engineer-Americas. She was very proud of her work with Nynas, where she spent 10 years, almost half of her working life.

A stellar moment in Oria’s life, was the birth of her daughter, Piper Lee, in August 2010.She became a devoted mother and showered her with affection and provided her with the best that life could offer. Oria loved travelling and the sea, especially the beaches of Jamaica and Galveston. She loved reading and great music of a wide variety. Her winsome personality, beautiful smile and sense of humor lit up the lives of many who knew her. She loved intelligent and intellectual discussion and could be a fierce defender of her views, much to the chagrin of many.

Oria is survived by her daughter Piper Lee, her parents, sisters Leona and Tricia, and brothers, Roberto and Dean.

She will forever be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
