Robert Wayne “Bob” Adams, 75, passed away January 27, 2022 in Houston following a valiant 15-month battle with brain cancer. A new resident of Hockley, Texas, he spent most of his adult life as a resident of Gloucester, Virginia. He never met a stranger and leaves this world a better place because of his strength of character and the vastness of his love.
Bob was born to Charles Edward Adams and Lillian Pearl Dabney King Adams in Baltimore, Maryland. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He had successful careers in auto mechanics, construction, teaching high school auto and diesel mechanics, and as a long-distance truck
Bob married Shirley Anne Cooper in 1968. Together they raised a daughter, Teresa Anne Gibson (husband Thomas “Tom”), and doted on their granddaughter Christina Elizabeth.
Bob was a rare and faithful man with a loving, larger-than-life personality and was an instant friend to all. He was quick to notice and admit to God’s hand moving throughout his lifetime and during his battle with cancer. His positive attitude, snappy jokes and sarcastic comments made him a favorite patient with the team of medical professionals in Virginia and at DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston.
Bob was preceded in death by their infant son, Robert Wayne Adams, Jr., his parents, and brother-in-law Olin David Cooper.
In addition to his wife, daughter and granddaughter, he is survived by siblings Louis King, Richard “Ritchie” King, C. Edward “Eddie” Adams, Jr., Carol Adams, Willis “Bill” Adams, James “Jimmy” Adams and David Adams as well as sister-in-law Lisa Cooper and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Final arrangements are through Beresford Funeral Service. Interment will be on February 10, 2022 at 12:30pm at Houston National Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038) officiated by Rev. David Welch.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) for general cancer research or to StacheStrong (https://www.stachestrong.org/) to support research and awareness to defeating brain cancer and improving the quality of patients’ lives.
