Sir Daniel Friday Oladuntoye Abidoye

Sir Daniel Friday Oladuntoye Abidoye was born April 20, 1944, at Mode compound, Omu-Aran, to parents Mr. Salami Abidoye and Mrs. Ajibola Afolayan Abidoye. He was a Fraternal twin.

Sir Abidoye lived in Omu Aran till he attended Government Secondary School, Ilorin - Old Boys. In June 1965, he traveled to Vom in Nigeria for Veterinary School, where he obtained a Diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry in 1969. This started his love for farming and agriculture.

He worked in the northern part of Nigeria and spoke Hausa fluently before traveling to the USA in September 1972 to study Animal Science at A&T State University. He graduated with Honors in 1975 and earned a Masters in Food Science from the University of Kentucky in 1976.

After moving to Nigeria, he worked at the International Telephone and Telegraph Corp, Nigeria, until July 1982, when he joined Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State, as a Lecturer. He spent more than 22 years at the Polytechnic, shaping young minds that passed through his classes. He coordinated seminars and admissions at the Polytechnic and led several committees, including the departmental investigation and social committees. He published several articles in international journals and taught Biology, Agriculture and other classes, including Genetics and Animal Breeding, at the Polytechnic before his retirement on 31st March 2005. He was affiliated with the Journal of Animal Science, Journal of Food Science, Nutrition Society of Nigeria and Poultry Association of Nigeria.

He earned a Post Graduate Diploma from Kwara State Polytechnic in September 1994 and attended the School of Cooperatives in 1998, starting one of the first cooperatives in his community.

On March 29, 1970, he married Lady R.O. Abidoye. They have three children, Olusegun, Margie, and Babatunde, with eight wonderful grandchildren.

With his wife, he spent his retirement life with his children and grandchildren, supporting them with love and guidance. He helped raise and support his eight grandchildren and was a major community member in Nigeria and the US.


Service to God and Community.

A humble person who addresses everyone as sir and ma, he attended UMTC Ilorin with his wife and family and worked in the church for many years. He was the Chairman of Gideons International, East Camp, Ilorin and served as Secretary for the Nigeria Evangelical Fellowship leading missions work at the church. After retirement back in Nigeria, he attended Mount Olive Anglican Church and was a knight of the Anglican Church.

He was involved in community work at Omu Ara and Ilorin, including the Omu Aran Development Association. 


Services are scheduled for Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Beresford Funeral Service at 1:30pm.  The Burial will follow at 3:30pm at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery in Richmond, Texas.
