In Memory of
Socorro Garrido Dumagan
-

Socorro was born on September 25, 1930 in Jaro, Leyte in the Philippines.  In 1961, she immigrated to the United States and lived with her sister, Carmen, in Daly City, California until she met and married her, husband, Marcelo.  Marcelo and Socorro settled down in San Jose, California by the time they welcomed their only child, a daughter they named Emily.  After Marcelo passed away, Socorro and Emily eventually moved to Texas permanently in 1980 where Socorro had resided until her death in 2022.

Socorro worked as a caretaker of young children and the elderly.  She was a carefree spirit with a very soft heart for anyone she believed suffered in silence.  Socorro’s empathy for others was profoundly deep.  In Socorro’s spare time she enjoyed sewing, working out, music, reading about her zodiac sign, and learning about astrology.

In 2005, Socorro decided to move from Abilene to Humble, Texas so she could be nearer to her only child.  Together Socorro and Emily would continue to reside primarily in Humble until Socorro passed away peacefully with Emily by her side on January 4, 2022.

Preceding her in death are her husband Marcelo, nephew Virgilio, and sister Carmen.  Surviving her are her daughter Emily, granddaughter Michelle, great grandsons Desert and Silas, niece Zenaida, niece Connie, and niece Nena along with many more nieces and nephews in the Philippines.
