I consider Steve a very good friend of mine and he is sorely missed. We had many great times playing poker together during our monthly games. He and Karen also attended several functions at our house and we always had a great time. My best to his family and other friends. Fair Winds and Following Seas Steve.

Over the seven years we worked together, many is the day that I would stop by and BS for a spell with Steve and the security boys at YRS. Plenty of tall tales of fishing, hunting, camping... funny stories Steve told of the bad boy buffoons he encountered at the County lock-up. When some of us were about to go TDY to less than friendly places, we would ask Steve for "refresher" weapons training on Range-2. And he happily obliged... any excuse to crack open a case of Federals and sling lead. I last bumped into Steve while TDY to Yokota, and shared some Green Beer and a couple hours of revelry with him at the Saint Paddies celebration. He was happy and enjoying the challenges of the job and the friendship of the folks there at Yokota. It was with great sadness that I heard of his illness, and then of his unexpected passing. And this close on the heels of the loss of another YRS brother. It was a pleasure to know Steve, an honor to serve with him, and I will treasure many fond memories. May God bless and comfort his family and friends. With great respect from a fellow Yakimite. Lance DeViney, Misawa, Japan.

We had the pleasure of meeting Steve back in 1997 when we move to Yakima and he was the real thing. He never marched to anyone's drum but his own. He could be counted on to tell you how things were...without the sugar. He was the "go-to" guy when you needed something done and always gave more than he asked for; as a soldier in Vietnam, sheriff in Yakima, and dedicated federal employee. Steve found happiness in the simple things in life, enjoying the outdoors fishing and hunting, but always spoke with a gleam in his eye about Karen and spending time with Jonathan working on a car. For a man who had been on his own since his early teen years and faced many challenges throughout his life, he had a remarkable care-free attitude. We will miss his sense of humor and hearty laugh - especially around the poker table :-) To Karen and Jonathan, may you find strength and comfort in your fond memories of Steve, he was truly one of God's good guys.
