James B. Sullivan died in Houston, Texas on Thursday, January 12, 2017. He was born July 19, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He grew up in the west Chicago neighborhood of Austin, attended Resurrection Parish grammar school followed by St. Mel High School. He attended University of Illinois – Navy Pier and graduated University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign. He also served in the U. S. Marine Corp.
In 1955, he married Geraldine A. Minich. They had 6 children and Jim was very involved in their children’s sports, coaching several girls’ softball teams and serving as a board member of Ladybug Softball Association in Southwest Houston. He earned a law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston while married with children and working full- time @ Exxon. He worked as a tax accountant
for over 30 years @ Exxon when he retired in 1992.
He also worked at Rice Football games for over 30 years. One highlight was when Rice University hosted Super Bowl VIII. He also worked with River Oaks Tennis Club & Society of St. Vincent de Paul for many years.
He enjoyed playing chess, gardening, sports, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles & computers. In retirement, he and Gerrie travelled the world.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John H. Sullivan & Agnes E. Sullivan, brothers, Thomas & Patrick Sullivan, and sister, Lois McGovern. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Geraldine A. Sullivan of Houston, TX, and six children, Mark Sullivan of Houston, TX, Jean Bohon and her husband, Mark of McKinney, TX, Nancy Sullivan of Houston, TX, Carol Sullivan of Midland, TX, Brian Sullivan and his wife, Megan of Chicago, IL, and Linda Sullivan and her husband Charlie Sliwoski of Bellevue, WA. He is also survived by brothers, Robert Sullivan of San Diego, CA & Michael Sullivan of Springfield MO, sisters Maureen Connors of Springfield, VA and Joanne Purcell of Naples, FL, and 5 grand-children: Laura and Ben Bohon and Julia, John & Jack Sliwoski.
Viewing will be on Friday, January 20, from 5-7pm with the Rosary at 7pm, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 8200 Roos Rd. Houston, TX 77036. Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Saturday, January 21.
