King B. Ivey was born January 22, 1955 in El Paso, Texas to William Eugene and Nell Drugan Ivey. King passed away on February 28, 2021 at the age of 66 at his home, surrounded by loved ones in Houston, Texas. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain and hardships, King came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
King was a caring and self-sacrificing husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend to countless people he met throughout his life and career. His personality had a very special way of leaving a beacon of light in his wake with all people he ever spent time with. He passed away in his home surrounded by the enduring warmth and love of his family and the laughter of his great grandson.
King B. Ivey is survived by his beautiful wife, Victoria. He was a proud father to one daughter, Aimee Edwards, grandpa to two children, Benjamin Sanderson and Madison Maddox, and great grandpa to one child, Bryan Feather. He is survived in life by his wife, daughter, grandchildren, great grandchild, 3 brothers (Paul Ivey, Gary Ivey, and Warren Ivey), 6 sisters (Michele Wahnsiedler, Patricia Lettunich, Kathi Lefler, Tereasa Orr, Nellie McDowell, and Paula Kessner), hundreds of cousins, loving family members and countless friends and acquaintances made during his wonderful lifetime. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother William E. Ivey Jr.
King Ivey
was a strong conservative, patriotic man who lived a great life. He touched many people with his strong sense of work ethic, devotion, and sacrifice. Many family members, coworkers, friends, acquaintances, and business customers were touched deeply by his sense of humor and his willingness to go out of his way to show encouragement and support in everything he did.
He was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Tornillo High School in 1973. He attended Texas A&M for a short time with an interest in an Anthropology major. In time, he found his way to Dallas with a job as an electrician. This sparked a lifelong love for the field of commercial electrical services. He spent thousands of hours working in, learning, and teaching his trade. He soon obtained his Journeyman’s license and pursued a Master Electrician’s license after moving to Houston and continuing in the electrical field. King attended a local community college in order to prepare for the Master Electrician test and spent several weeks studying for the test. It was one of his own personal best accomplishments in the early 1990’s.
King met his beautiful wife, Victoria (“Vickie”) in 1978 and they lived together for several years until they married on January 16, 1987. Vickie had a daughter from a previous relationship and King became a father when he didn’t have to. He devoted his life to create a better family and give his daughter a greater chance at life. He also stepped up several years later and sacrificed a great deal to give his grandchildren a wonderful Christian education and a brighter future all around. The example he gave in both his personal and work life is something we all look up to every day.
In 1995, King and his wife started a new company, Ivey Electrical. Their office began in the quant “back room” of their home and grew in size over the next 26 years. The first official office was located in Channelview, Texas in 2000. Their dedication, devotion, sacrifice, and love kept the company going through the crazy ups & downs of the economy throughout the years. Today, his wife is working to close the business while trying her best to keep his memory alive to all his wonderful employees and customers.
In his personal life, he became a proud dad of an Engineering college graduate in 2003, a grandpa in July 1996 and again in July 1998, and a great grandpa in 2017. As always does in life, his first granddaughter will be born in August 2021. His legacy will live on in our hearts and souls forever!
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on March 20, 2021 at The River Pointe Church, 970 Dell Dale Street, Channelview, Texas 77530. Please note, due to Covid19 restrictions, masks are required within the building during the service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, it is at King’s request that donations be made in tribute to Camp Hope, an interim housing community for veterans suffering from PTSD.
