Bill Gerhart was born on Saturday, March 2, 1935 at home in Klein, Texas.
He graduated from Klein High School and played on the football team. He enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He also was active in the Army Reserves. He married Mary Carolyn Sanders on July 12, 1958. He was baptized in 1946 at the Tomball Road church of Christ. He was a lifelong member of the church of Christ attending Hidden Valley church of Christ for almost 50 years and the Champions church of Christ (formerly Tomball Road) for the last few years.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Viola Gerhart and siblings, Frank Jr, Josephine, Delbert, Jimmie, Bennie, Georgia Mae and Mary Francis. He is also proceeded by his wife of 57 years, Mary Carolyn. He is survived by his children; Cary, Lisa Williams, Carl (Cindy) and Billy Jr (LeeAnn). He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Surviving brother is Rueben (Mary) Gerhart and many, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Bill was a very hard worker and never a complainer. He worked hard to support his family and was the source of labor behind the many efforts Carolyn could find to do. He was a deacon at the Hidden Valley church of Christ for many years serving in the bus ministry, driving the youth group to various events in a church Bus, helping cook at Bandina Youth Camp for more than 25 years, maintaining the baptistry and coordinating the servers during Worship.
He loved to fish and could sit on the boat or on the dock for hours at a time with a fishing rod in his hand. He loved watching his great-grandchildren fish or just run around playing. He also had a fondness for picking at his daughter-in-laws and anyone else who was around.
He was an avid gardener and grew enough vegetables to be a small truck farm which Carolyn spent many hours canning or cooking or giving away to friends and family. He was a quiet man but had many people he could call friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9th from 5-8pm at the Church of Christ in Champions, located at 13902 Cutten Road, Houston, TX 77069.
Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be at the Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 10th at 10am.
Celebration of Life will be at the Church of Christ in Champions on Wednesday at 1pm
