In Memory of
Bishop Zephaniah Williams
-

Bishop Zephaniah Williams of Houston, Texas passed away on December 3rd, 2022 at the age of 15 after a life-long struggle with kidney disease. Bishop was born on March 20, 2007 in Texas and lovingly adopted by the Tambe’ family on December 26th, 2020.

Bishop had a big personality and made friends everywhere he went. His favorite hobbies included listening to a variety of music and singing, loudly and with enthusiasm for all to hear. Bishop never met a stranger and was always interested to get to know new people and make new friends. Even during his times of frequent illness Bishop was always ready to play, socialize, sing, and dance. Bishop greatly enjoyed school, especially math and spelling, and he frequently asked for more math and spelling “work” because he enjoyed it so much.

Bishop’s early life was very challenging; he spent many years in foster care, but he never lost his loving personality or his hope that he would find a forever family. That dream came true when he was adopted by the Tambe family and he is survived by his mother, Monica Tambe, his father, Robert Tambe, and his sister, Esther Tambe of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by a very large extended family at Texas Children’s Hospital; Bishop made so many friends at the hospital that it simply isn’t possible to list them all. Bishop also attended school at George Bush High School where he also leaves behind a special family of teachers and friends who will miss him greatly.

Services will be held Saturday, January 7th, 2023 in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service.  Visitation begins at 1PM and the Memorial Service will begin at 2PM.

I met Bishop when he was at the hospital. He was such a joy to take care of and always had us laughing. He was usually the first one awake at 6 in the morning to greet everyone. You can always hear him from down the hall counting loudly. He will be truly missed!

I knew Bishop for years through the hospital and will always remember his singing and smiling face. He used to stand in the doorway of his room to greet the people that he knew as they were coming down the hall. He will be greatly missed! Hugs to his family.

Bishop lit up every room with so much light and happiness with each encounter we had a Texas Children's. He was so lively and made sure to ask each nurse's name to remember it for the next time. He will be truly missed and it was my pleasure to able to meet and care for him.

Bishop was always a welcome visitor to the Pi Beta Phi Patient/Family Library at Texas Children's. He enjoyed the books, computers and learning. Often he would enthusiastically let me know he remembered the library rules and sometimes I would ask him to tell some of the other patients the rules, which he loved. His gentle soul will not be forgotten and I will miss him.
