Charlotte Jean Honet passed away peacefully in her Dallas home on March 1, 2022 at age 94. She was surrounded by family, friends, and her beloved dog “Happy.” Charlotte was born April 8, 1927 to Lionel Kenneth Arnold and Lora Annette Killius Arnold. She graduated from Drake University, which is where she met the love of her life, Stephen Joel Honet. They were married for 36 years until he passed on December 9th, 1991.
Charlotte taught typing and driver’s education while Steve was stationed in Germany for the Korean War. They moved to Houston, Texas, around 1960 where they owned and operated the Bridge and Games Studio of Houston until 1992.
In 1974, Steve and Charlotte opened their home to the 12-year-old boy who would show up to play at their bridge studio, Dane Christopher Compton. He started living with them and became their son. Charlotte later moved in with Chris and his wife, Donna, after Steve’s death and helped raise their daughters, Morgan and Taylor. Charlotte was an avid Bridge player until the end of her life and helped manage a bridge studio opened by Donna in 2002, Bridge Academy of North Dallas. Her other great passions were sports and genealogy. She loved the Astros and built a database of 50,000 names that traces back her family and Donna’s family for hundreds of years.
Charlotte is survived by Chris and Donna Compton and their daughters Morgan Seline, 26, and Taylor Compton, 23. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Lionel Charles Arnold.
Graveside services will take place at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer, Houston, Texas on Monday March 7 at noon.
