Gilly Albert Cabe-Maury, age 88, died Tuesday April 21, 2015 in Houston, Texas. He was born on May 22nd, 1926 in Sarthe, France. After surviving the Nazi occupation of France during WWII, Gilly served in the French army between 1946 and 1947, being deployed in Villingen, Germany.  Gilly was able to immigrate to the U.S. in 1948, thanks to a sponsorship provided by U.S. Lt. Norman Short, who would remain a life-long friend. Later, in 1949, while working on a dairy farm in Wisconsin Gilly met his wife Dorothy Behling.

With French being his native language, Gilly learned fluent English and then Spanish. He travelled the globe, living in exotic locations such as Algeria and Venezuela. After a prosperous career with Snap-On Tools, he opened his first restaurant; Café Normande, in Lafayette LA. Gilly relocated to Houston, TX after opening his second restaurant, called “Cabe-Maury”. Notable guests of the restaurant included NASA astronauts Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, among others. Gilly realized further achievements as an international sales consultant working between the U.S., Mexico and Europe. His most recent position was held with Spray-Quip, Inc in Houston. Gilly worked tirelessly as a salesperson until October 2014. Responsibilities there included surveying, building quotations, obtaining city permits, working with manufactures, distributors and customers, as well as overseeing the installation of specialized painting and coating equipment. In addition to his passion for cooking, he took a deep interest in photography, automobiles and WWII history.

Gilly is preceded in death by his mother; Madeleine Langlait, Father; Jean Cabe-Maury, brothers; Yve and Daniel, wife; Dorothy Behling and daughter; Leslie Ann. Gilly is survived by his daughter Lisa Cabe-Maury Beasley and son Gilly-Jean Cabe-Maury. Grandchildren include Justin, Jordan, Jacob, Christopher, Nicholas and great-grandchild Sebastian. Gilly also leaves behind the Knight family of Houston TX, of which he was a beloved member since 1972. The Knights include husband and wife Ray and Ellen Knight, with children Leslie, Greg, Kelly and David. Grandchildren include Lindsay, Lauren, Nicholas, Ashley, Aiden, Mason, Robert, Elizabeth, Reagan and great-grandchildren Pierce, Mia and Kennady. Gilly will be most remembered for his kindness, compassion and deep appreciation for his loved ones.
