In Memory of
Lilly Ruth Huckleberry
-

Lilly Ruth Huckleberry went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2012. Ruth was born on April 13, 1941 and raised in Chiefland, Florida. Known as Lilly, Ruth, Mama, Granma, Nana, Aunt, and friend, she’ll be missed by all.

She attended Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. Ruth moved to Texas and began working at the US Post Office. During that time, she met Donald Wallace Huckleberry, the love of her life. They were married on October 24, 1964. Ruth and Don raised two daughters and a granddaughter in a house filled with laughter and love and more laughter.

In 1975, Ruth began her lifelong calling as a school teacher. During 35 years as a school teacher, at several schools including Temple Oaks Baptist School, Inwood Baptist School, and Central Christian Academy, Ruth touched the lives of hundreds of young children who learned to read and to love Jesus from "Mrs. Huckleberry".

Ruth is survived by her husband, Don Huckleberry; daughter, Donna Ruth Huckleberry; daughter, Lisa Carol Owen and husband Steve; sister, Daisy Holley; sister-in-laws, Mona McDonald and Lavonia Luke; granddaughters, Hayley Huckleberry and Sydney Owen: great-granddaughter, Lilly Bee Valeck; nieces, Liane Pena, Charlena Holley, Evelyn Starr, Tonya Tibbetts, Janet Eason, Julie Pyle; nephews, Gerry Holley, Gary McDonald, Russell McDonald, Donnie McDonald, and Kenny McDonald; and their numerous spouses; great-nephews and great-nieces who were near and dear to her heart.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John David Luke and Nellie Lynn Luke; sister, Mary Starr; brothers, Eli (Buddy) Luke, George Luke, Paul Luke, and John David Luke; and beloved brother-in-law, Leon "Tooter" McDonald.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Visitation will be at Westway Baptist Church, 11207 Perry Road, Houston, TX at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the church immediately following the service. But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Ruth was a friend to all and loved by all. I first met Ruth when I was 18 years old and she was 24. Our friendship grew quickly we all laughed a lot and played a lot and when I was down she would lift me up, she was always full of surprises, adventureious, out going.
She was a hard worker she never knew when to be still, if there was something to do, she would be right in the middle of it and get it done.Ruth has always been a blessing to me and will always be MY BEST FRIEND. I'm going to see her again one day as she is waiting for all of us in Heaven, where we can play again. Love you my friend. See ya.

Ruth was a very special person whose quick wit made you laugh whenever she was around. She also loved the Lord in a very transparent way. Don and her family were her treasure. She will be greatly missed.
