Mary Lou Evans Shaffer, 85, passed away in Houston on August 4, 2017.  She was born on November 7, 1931 in Fostoria, Texas to Edgar Leon Moyers and Rittie Oliver Moyers.

She was a graduate of Hogg Middle School, and spent many years in Africa as minister/missionary.  She was an active member of the church all her life.   She loved God, her family and fishing.

She is survived by her son, Dwight Evans; daughters, Barbara Case & husband Tim Case, and Diana Jones & husband Casey Jones; grandchildren, Nicholas Evans, Elizabeth Evans, Tammy Richtie, Chris Thedford, Stacey Jones, and Reese Jones; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Heather, Jalen, Gabriel, and Kitanna; and sisters, Sue Peoples & husband Millerd, and Ina Mae Nash.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, Ross Evans; recent husband David Shaffer; brother in law, Fred Nash III; daugher in law, Gayla Evans; and her parents.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service.

Condolences to the family. Mary Lou was a great blessing to us here in Kenya, Africa. She and her late husband, David Shaffer did great work of preaching the Gospel and teaching the word of God. They were our family friends too. We lost contact and I only got this online after searching for her whereabouts for a long time. Together with the Church this has given us a closure. We thank our God who gave Mary Lou to us. May His name be praised. Pastor Lizzie Gachie
