Mwenya Kenani
In Everlasting Loving Memory of Mwenya Kenani
January 24th, 1999 – April 14th, 2020
Mwenya (AKA Joe) Kenani was born on January 24th, 1999 on the Copperbelt Province in Luanshya, Zambia. He was named after both living grandmothers who share the same name. He was the second born child to Kwame & Jill Kenani of Richmond, Texas. Mwenya has an older brother Chibwe and a younger sister Natasha. Mwenya’s paternal grandparents are Mrs. Medley Mwenya Kenani and the late Mr. Jonathan Chibwe Kenani of Chingola. His maternal grandparents are Mrs. Margaret Mwenya Saisha & the late Mr. Charles Saisha of Kitwe. Mwenya passed away on April 14th, 2020 in Denton, Texas.
With his mom and older brother, Mwenya moved to the US on March 30th, 2001 to join his dad who had relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He lived and moved with his family in Brooklyn Park, Minnetonka,Plymouth in Minnesota, Sarasota Florida, Alpharetta, Lawrenceville, Buford in Georgia and finally in Richmond Texas.
Mwenya graduated from Foster High School, Class of 2017. He was accepted and enrolled at University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton Texas in the fall of 2017. He loved playing and watching sports especially Basketball and American Football. He was full of life and easily made lots of friends wherever he went. This is evident from the overwhelming support, following his untimely passing, that we have received from the lives he touched all over the world.
Service will be held on Thursday April 23, 2020 in the chapel of Beresford Funeral Service @ 13501 Alief Clodine Rd, Houston TX 77082 from 11:00am to 12:00 noon followed by burial at Woodlawn Garden of Memories @ 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, TX 77055.

On behalf of both the Kenani and Saisha families and our friends in the diaspora and in Zambia, we are extremely saddened by your untimely passing. We are however comforted by the word of God quoting, Isaiah 57: 1 – 2 (NLT) “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die”.
Mwenya, our beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend, God has taken you before your time to protect you from the evil to come. It is our prayer that your soul will rest in eternal peace in the bosom of our maker the almighty God.
