In Memory of
Wrayann "DeDe" Martin
-

Wrayann, “DeDe”, Martin, 85, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024. She was surrounded by her two daughters and son-in-law at their home in Spring, Texas.

Wrayann was born on April 29, 1939, in Burbank, California to Kenneth and Florence Leonard.  Her beloved sister, Cheramy, came along 14 years later.

She graduated from Birmingham H.S. in California in 1957.  In that same year she married Jack Erbes, whom she met at church as both sang in the choir. Her and Jack went on to have two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Melodie.

Wrayann worked at Wray Brothers Ford, a family-owned business.  She loved singing gospel songs at church and playing the accordion.  One of her favorite hobbies was making clothes for her sister and 2 daughters, whom she loved to dress alike as she took them to church.  Unfortunately, her first marriage did not last.  Several years later, in 1976, she met Carl Martin.  They married 3 years later and were together for 30 years.  Upon Carl’s death, Wrayann moved in with her daughter, Melodie, due to her medical needs.  She had been inflicted with a rare disease, which caused the loss of her left leg.  She suffered from this her entire life.  Nevertheless, she was a tenacious and vivacious woman that was committed to helping, counselling and inspiring others with similar medical issues.  She was an example of strength to all who knew her, especially her daughters, her sister, grandchildren and friends.  Regardless of her plight she visited her grandchildren daily, devoted to their needs as they grew up.

She professed Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior, following in the example of her Grandma Wray, a travelling evangelist, who instructed her in the faith.  She held on to those times, giving her strength and courage throughout her life.

Wrayann is survived by her daughters, Michelle and Melodie, her son-in-law, David Kersey, her two grandchildren Makenna and Colton, Grandson-in-law Benjamin and his wife Megan, her sister Cheramy, who gave her the sweet nickname “DeDe”, and brother-in-law, Rick Hassen, and nieces and nephews, Coleman, Caitlin, Sora, and Chase, and great-nieces and nephews, Maverick, Aria, Remington, Harrison, and Sterling.  And also, her cousin, Renee Pfau, of whom she had a very special bond.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Carmen Nelson Bostick Cemetery at 11am.

The family would like to especially thank Pastor Jack McKinney, and the caregivers of Heart-to-Heart Hospice, whom also tended to our mom’s medical needs in her final days.  And to all those who offered prayers and support, we sincerely thank you.
