It is with great sadness that the family of Arlin Rex Johnson Jr. announces his passing on January 24, 2018 due to the effects of age. He was 88 years old. Rex is preceded in death by his loving Father and Mother, Dr. Arlin Rex Johnson Sr. and wife Edith Jones Johnson, and his beloved sister Beverly Johnson Brown. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jeannine, his 5 children, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Rex and Jeannine were married for 62 years.

For those who knew Rex, the funeral and celebration of his full and rewarding life will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ’s church building located at 25623 Richards Road, Spring, TX 77386. A public viewing will take place at the same location at 10am.
One of Rex’s favorite scriptures was about the Savior: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” If Rex were with us today he would comfort us all with this reassuring and hopeful message.

Rex was born in Provo, UT and worked as a
professional singer in Las Vegas, NV and as a commercial real estate executive in The Woodlands, TX. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for many years in the faith’s temple in Houston. Rex was the consummate family man whose love for his family and friends knew no bounds. He was quick to laugh, always willing to serve others, and loved being on his boat with his family.

It is with the most loving memories I will always have of Rex Johnson. His infectious smile and encouraging words I will always hold close to my heart. My condolences go to his family and all that knew Rex. A wonderful Husband, Dad, Pops, and friend gone, .......but never forgotten.
I have known Rex and Jeannine for nearly 30 thirty years, since our family came to The Woodlands. I have had the great pleasure and honor of being in church and community choirs and in quartets with Rex for all those years and will greatly miss singing with him and will miss his great tenor voice. He was a good friend, and brought to many the Spirit through his singing. I served as his bishop for five of those years and he always was willing to help and serve others in any way he could. I am glad that his travail is now over and he is at peace again. I will expect to meet him when I depart this life and again join him in the heavenly choir.

Rex was a friend and mentor to me when I was in high school and serving a LDS church mission in Brazil. He taught me about sailboats and about being courageous and faithful in the face of adversity. When I reflect on difficult times during my mission, I always remember the support of my parents, and second to them Brother Johnson.
A consistent friend, he wrote letters of encouragement and told uplifting stories, expressing love for his family and serving the Lord. Three of the things he wrote me come to my mind and serve as a tribute to his life and devotion.
Speaking of sailboat racing as an analogy to life he wrote “I would tell my crew, which was my family, please let’s not be fair weather sailors... (Alex) sail on even in rough weather.”
Speaking of old age “As you can imagine, I keep looking over my shoulder as each year goes by hoping I can carry on under my own steam until my last day on earth. Wanting to be part of solutions rather than problems is a constant hope.”
Speaking of the passing of a church leader “He was a great man, and will be a great leader in Paradise.”
Rex has sailed on to Paradise and is continuing his greatness there. God bless him and his family.
Rex and Jeannine both are our very good friends. Rex and Jeannine have many friends because they are so kind. When Rex would see a need to uplift someone and help them, he would do it. His beautiful singing voice would uplift all her heard him. His testimony of Jesus Christ was very powerful and moving. He appreciated those around them for their service and would encourage and thank them often. His smile, his enthusiasm, and his courage were inspiring.
We will miss Rex, but we are so glad that he does not have to be suffering anymore from poor health. We are glad he can sing in the Heavenly Choirs, and be on the Lord's errand there. It was obvious that his love for others was based on his love for the Savior and Jeannine and his family. His love for his family is eternal and he will anxiously wait for them on the other side of the veil to embrace them and greet them! What a wonderful reunion it will be and with many loving friends!
