In Memory of
Barbara Ann Turner Dobyns
-

Barbara Ann Turner Dobyns went to her Heavenly Home to reside eternally with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 2:33 p.m.  The graveside service will be at Farris Cemetery located on 1828 FM 1791, Richards, TX 77873 at 12pm December 28, 2022.  Barbara was born in Houston, Texas on August 16, 1943 to Cassie and Lillian Turner.  Barbara was their last child and had two sisters, Margret and Nell.  Barbara grew up in Houston and she met the love of her life, William “Sonny” Dobyns, in Drama Class at Sam Houston High School.  They were married on November 17, 1961 and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Barbara and Sonny decided to have children, and they were blessed with a son, Shannon, in 1966 and a daughter, Samantha, in 1971.  The family moved to Oak Ridge North, Texas in the early 1970’s.

Barbara was a beloved pianist.  She started playing piano at a very early age and became very accomplished playing the piano for the churches she attended.  Her longest tenure as church pianist was at Oak Ridge Baptist Church and Mims Baptist Church. Playing piano was God’s work through Barbara and it became decades of service.  She played for church services, choir programs, orchestras, quartets, weddings, funerals, and many other events and occasions.  Barbara was also blessed with the ability to sing and often sang for many of the events she played at.  Make no mistake, she performed for God and practiced accordingly.   She always sought to make sure that God would get the glory for her abilities that he blessed her with.  After one occasion playing for a renowned violinist, she would often quote the violinist saying, “We play for King of Kings and Lord of Lords”.  Truly, it was to God be the Glory.

Barbara was also an instructor.  She taught piano to so many people for so many years.  She dearly loved her church and taught Sunday School Class for the Uplifters Class at First Baptist Church in Conroe.  She also taught outside her church doing Christian book reviews for WMU’s Round Table at her sister’s church, and teaching Bible Studies at numerous people’s houses and in her home.  She loved working in Vacation Bible Schools and counseling at church camp retreats.

Barbara was a prayer warrior for her family and friends. She loved everyone and if you needed prayer, you could call and count on Barbara!  This was not lip service.  Barbara believed in the power of prayer.  This was taught to her by her mother, and she expanded upon it.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cassie and Lillian Turner, her sisters, Margret Stanfield and Nell Stagner.  Barbara leaves behind her husband, Sonny, son, Shannon, daughter, Samantha and her husband, David Tallent. She leaves behind two grandchildren who affectionately called her Boo Boo, Jack and Luke Tallent, along with family pets, Puffy and Mr. Gibbles. She also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. One of Barbara's favorite Bible verses that she would quote frequently was the first half of Psalms 37:3, “Trust in the Lord and do good.”

Barbara was one of the most amazing woman I met. She would come to have her hair done and we had the best time! I always left extra time because i knew we would have these deep conversations about God, the next lesson she was planning and her beautiful family. She loved you all so much. She loved EVERY one and made sure that they knew that God did too. I am positive that God has a special place for her and has said “ well done my good and faithful servant!” God bless you both for caring so well for your parents!Much love and respect.
