In 1969 Damon moved his growing family from Louisiana to Texas after accepting a job with the Houston Post where he worked as a proofreader for next 25 years until the newspapers closure on April 18, 1995. During the summer months, Damon and Audrey would spend weekends taking trips with the
kids down to the beach for family time. He later went to work for Academy Sports to keep himself busy which he did for another two decades. In his free time, he enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, which being a Massachusetts man were of course the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. During his time in Louisiana, he also grew to love the LSU Tigers whose colors he wore proudly. But his first love was always cars and racing. He enjoyed working on cars and believed the Ford Mustang was the greatest car there was. In his later years, he enjoyed attending church and regularly sneaking away to the slot machines. He was always in attendance at birthdays and holidays and cherished his time with family.
