In Memory of
Sandra Lynne Vaughn
-

On May 24, 2021, Sandra Lynne “Sandy” Carter Vaughn passed away at the age of 75 surrounded by her three loving children. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all of those that were lucky enough to know her.

Sandy was born on December 14, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Jack Sims Carter and Willie Flynn Vollbaum Carter. She was the youngest of three siblings.  During her childhood, her family moved to live on Scott Bay in Baytown.  It was here that she would grow to love living on the water, fishing, and the outdoors.  This was also where she would meet her high school sweetheart whom became her husband much later in life.

Education was always very important to Sandy.  After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School (Class of 1964), she attended Sam Houston State University and received her BS-Education (1968) while raising two children.  Sandy went on to teach for several years in Houston before returning to school to be the first family member to obtain her Master’s, which was in Library Science from Sam Houston State University (1986).  She did this while also working and taking care of her third child.  She finished her career as the Intermediate School Librarian in Stafford, as well as, teaching and tutoring English as a second language at Houston Community College.

Sandy had many hobbies and loved each one with great passion. She was an eBay aficionado and an avid collector of many things - stem ware, china, antique dolls, lighted Christmas villages and many other beautiful handicrafts that had a story and history to tell. She was very tech-savvy, enjoyed her gadgets, and was up to date on the latest technologies, sometimes informing her own children on how to use them.  She had an adventurous side and loved to travel with her family from U.S. country wide road-trips to Disneyworld to Italy to Oman in the Middle East.

Sandy enjoyed shopping and dining with friends and family.  She also enjoyed having her own time to color on her iPad, listen to countless audio books, and review essays.  Christmas was by far her favorite time of the year and as the matriarch of 4 generations, she loved to host her entire family and revel in elaborate festive decor and traditions.

Anyone who knew Sandy would surely have a memorable story to tell. She was both bold and fiery as well as loving and charming. She was very caring, passionate and carried herself in a light-hearted and joyful way. She loved her family and friends dearly and will be missed deeply.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 28 years, John Calvin “Stormy” Vaughn;  daughter, Kimberly Floyd, and sons and daughters-in-law Elaine Floyd and Stephen and Jenny (Tran) and Jeremy Provost; step-children David, Kevin, and Kenny Vaughn; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Jacquelyn Caye Ranney & husband Clif; and her beloved dog, Abbey.

Memorial services are scheduled on Saturday, June 12 11:00 a.m. at CrossPoint Community Church, 700 Westgreen Blvd., Katy, Tx., 77450.

The family believes Sandy would prefer a donation to the Houston Public Library Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Knowing Sandy was next door to us was a blessing. When Harvey waters rose, she let us know we could come to her home. And when you needed support, she was there.
