We remember Alton Ray Carter whose kind heart touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Alton was born December 2, 1930 to Benjimin Franklin (Frank) Carter and Maudie Eiland Carter in Iola, Texas. He passed away April 26, 2026, at the age of 95.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Rose and her husband David and Debbie Kirkpatrick Frazier and her Husband Bruce. Grandchildren Tiffany Mutolo (Jack), Jonathan Rose (Kayla), Brian Kirkpatrick (Emily), Brady (Brittany) and 13 great grandchildren.
Alton proudly served his country in the United States Navy. While stationed in Boston he met the love of his life Grace, while attending Youth for Christ rally. Their marriage of 65 years is a lasting testament to love, partnership and commitment.
Alton and Grace welcomed their first child, Linda, while still in Boston. Soon after Alton finished his service in the Navy. Alton brought his little family to his hometown of Houston. Blessings flowed. A second daughter, Debbie was born. Alton, who had been employed at Armco Steel mill prior to his military service, found his job was waiting. He worked as a crane operator for 35 Years.
He went back to church where he had attended since he was 10 years old when his family originally moved to Houston. Known first as Caplen Memorial Church, then as Greens Bayou Assembly of God. Alton was an important part of that congregation which grew into what is now Crossroads Fellowship. There he found his purpose and calling in life. Ministry, not as a preacher but as an armor bearer to his pastors. He served in many areas of the church wherever he saw a need. He was an usher, greeter, Sunday school teacher, prayer meeting leader, nursing home minister and deacon. He served as a Deacon for 39 years then became an Honorary Elder. Down through the years he made thousands of visits to people in the hospital to pray with them. His passion was to help the people in the church. He was a man of prayer. He spent hours in prayer calling upon the Lord for the needs of others. If Bro. Carter told you he was praying for you, you knew he was.
Alton will be remembered for his unwavering faith and the love he gave so freely to his family and community. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in all who knew him.
