Antonina Baryska, lovingly known as “Babcia Tosia,” passed away on September 22, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas, at the age of 87.
She was born on March 19, 1938, in Sufczyn, Poland, to Anna and Stanisław Słowińscy. Growing up in the difficult years of World War II Poland, Antonina endured unimaginable hardships, including being separated from her parents and sisters at the age of two. Even in those early years, her strength and determination carried her forward, shaping the resilient and remarkable woman she would become.
Antonina was endlessly creative, with a natural brilliance that could not be taught in books. Though she only completed formal schooling through the 7th grade, she had a gift for creating beauty with her hands and solving any puzzle life placed before her. She loved sewing, making beautiful dresses, and painting pieces filled with color and love. She could never sit still—always moving, building, planting, and dreaming up her next creation. Whether it was in
Her love for animals filled her life with joy—she adored her chickens, ducks, rabbits, and every creature that crossed her path. Being outside, surrounded by nature, brought her peace and fulfillment. Her life was a testament to simple, joyful living: grounded in hard work, endless creativity, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Antonina moved to Sugar Land, Texas, to be close to her beloved daughter, Zuzanna, her pride and joy, and together they embraced this new chapter. Her grandchildren were her heart, and she played an irreplaceable role in helping raise them. Babcia’s love was limitless—she gave generously of her time, her care, and her wisdom, always strong-willed and inspiring until the very end.
She is survived by her sister, Celina Ostrowska; her daughter, Zuzanna, and husband, Wojciech Nabzdyk; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher Nabzdyk and Gabrielle Nabzdyk; nieces and grandnieces, Wiesia and Anna Ludwiczyńska; and many dear friends who she loved as family. To know Babcia was to feel her warmth—she truly never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanisław and Anna Słowińscy; and her sisters, Maria Ludwiczyńska-Galinska and Emilia Ziober.
