On Monday, December 1, 2008, Donald L. Hoyt passed away at his home in Navasota, TX. Donald, born in New Orleans, LA on August 13, 1938, was the son of Oscar and Rosie Hoyt, and was raised in Alexandria, LA. He graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana College in Pineville. After marrying his loving wife, Theresiann Rozas, on April 3, 1961, he was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his work in the church and served in many callings including Ward Clerk, Branch President, High Councilman, and Bishop. He especially enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher for the 17-18 year olds. Teaching these young people about the Gospel, bearing his testimony to them and watching as they developed testimonies of their own,
was a pure delight. It proved to be one of his most enjoyable church experiences, and he remembers the young people from his class with great affection and love.
Don was a proud father of seven children; Roshella & Arnold Burkholder of Katy, TX, Nathan & Jackie Hoyt of Cypress, TX, Dean & Bonnie Hoyt of Katy, TX, Nolan & Crystal Hoyt of Katy, TX, Matthew Hoyt, who preceded Don in death, Diana & Steve Roosa of Katy, TX, and Ladora Hoyt of Washington, D.C. as well as ten grandchildren; Travis Hoyt, Tanner Hoyt, Tyson Hoyt, Trenton Hoyt, James Hoyt, Nicholas Hoyt, Natalie Hoyt, Matthew Roosa, Bailey Hoyt, and Riley Hoyt. He loved his children and grandchildren and was always there for them. He was known to tell his children “don’t worry, I am your father, it is my job” whenever he was to do something for them.
Don and Theresiann recently built their retirement home in Navasota, Texas where they enjoyed having family and friends over. Don truly enjoyed being on his mower and working in the yard. When he was not in the yard working, he was packing up boxes to take to the Post Office. His Texas website kept him active with sales, which Don loved to do. He received great joy out of the sales from his site. One sale or twenty sales did not matter to him; he just loved hearing the computer ding as he got an order.
Everyone that knew Don loved him. He was a kind hearted man, devoted father and grandfather, and a loving husband to Theresiann for more than 47 years. We will all miss him.
