Dr. Douglas F. Muster of Houston, Texas passed away at home on September 7, 2007 from heart failure. He was born November 2, 1918 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
His education included a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette and a PHD from Illinois Institute of Technology. Douglas retired from the Army as a Captain and was a veteran of WWII. His professional life touched many people through his work at the General Electric Laboratories and as Brown & Root Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Houston. He served as Chairman of the ME Department for ten years. While at U of H he also served as Chairman of the US Technical Advisory Group for ISO/TC 108. Additionally, Douglas was a respected forensic engineer and expert witness for attorneys across the Nation. He was also a 3rd Degree Freemason.
Douglas was a strong leader, brilliant engineer and designer, beloved professor, famous cook and baker, family patriarch, loving husband and dear father.
He was preceded by his oldest son David G. Muster who passed away in 2006. His wife of 63 years, Jean Muster (90) survives him along with daughter Deborah Thomasson, sons Randy, Scott and Gordon Muster – all from Houston.
His family includes daughters-in-law Jerilyn and Barbara Muster, ten grand children – James, Heather Mary, Nathan, Heather Renee, Christopher, Alex, Amber, Elizabeth, Evan and Jennifer, great-grand children - Basil, Jordan, Lucas, Wyatt and Robert. Douglas had many “academic children” and extended family including Otto and Donna Crenwelge, Marc and Zouina Mezache and Calvin and Christal Lemons.
We will all miss his dry wit, compassion, generosity and warmth.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 5020 West Bellfort (713-723-6262) on Wednesday, September 12th at 10:00am. After the church ceremony there will be a reception at Redwood Place, the family home for forty years.
