Georgann Barrett
Born January 6, 1951
Died February 22, 2026 in Houston, Texas.

Daughter of Lucille and George Thomas Barrett and sister to Alvis Jason Barrett.

Georgann is survived by her husband, Norman Stewart, many cousins, and her beasts, Matilda, Bisquits, Rastus, Bits, Cleo, Honey, Opal, and Happy as well as all the people she inspired over the years.

Georgann was a Girl Scout and Volunteer for seven decades and a Girl Scout executive for more than three decades.  She sang beautiful music. She was funny.  She was an artist and patron of the arts. She loved Saint Francis.  She was a big fan of Billy Shakespeare.  She took time to talk to the flowers and trees and beasts along the way. She was a strong warrior woman who was a member of the Comanche Nation.  If she was your friend, maybe you were lucky enough to canoe down a river with her or maybe sit in the twilight, smell the honeysuckle and watch the fireflies.

There are no words to describe the legacy George Ann leaves behind. She was one of a kind, a real positive spirit in this world, and she made a difference in so many lives. She will be missed terribly - but her memories will always live on in our hearts.

We had wild times. I mean WILD in the very best way.
She taught me many things and introduced me to her life with open arms. She remained a loyal and dear friend. Her love for Norman was deep and so beautiful. The world is a little sadder without her optimism, good cheer, and that hilarious sense of humor.

You inspired and influenced more people than you could have ever known. I am honored to have met you in 1963 and re-acquainted with you in 1982. You have been my mentor, my friend, my confidant and more over the years. Your leadership, kindness, and dedication to inspire and advocate for girls throughout San Jacinto Council has surely earned your wings as a Green Angel. "Aloha, my friend. Until we meet again around a campfire, on land or at sea. Girl Scouts together we'll always be. And when we should part, I know that you'll live in my heart. May God be with you to light the way. Aloha, my friend."

When I started work as a Girl Scout staff member in 1980, my young adult daughter came to the office shortly thereafter. She saw Georgeann and said, “Mom, she was one of my camp counselors!” Knowing how much my daughter had loved resident camp, and knowing the key to campers having a good time was great camp counselors, endeared Georgeann to me. I quickly found out Georgeann could be fun — while working, she was multi talented (of course, her strong drama side stood out immediately), and she made strong friendships quickly. She had a quirky wit (which we both shared), she didn’t let the sometimes bad attitudes of others affect her good nature! I can’t recall, in the 20 years we worked together, her ever being grumpy. Georgeann supervised many young camp counselors over the years, and if even one of those counselors ever had a complaint about her, I never heard about it. I think Georgeann treated her counselors with the same respect and caring that she wished to be treated with. And, it came back to her in sincere devotion. I’m not sure when Norman entered Georgeann’s life, but I know he was the true love of her life. She didn’t gush about him, you could just feel the love when she would occasionally mention his name. I am so thankful God chose for our life paths to cross. She enriched my life while neither she nor I realized it. She was a true friend!

George Ann, a person you have to experience..... the jingle of an armful of sterling bracelets, and the sparkle of awesome nail polish, the salt and pepper sprinkled braid, the Birkenstocks no matter how cold outside, the sound of a hearty laugh (sometimes at your expense), guitar chords and sing-alongs, the incredible smile of pride at a young woman completing a task or braving through her fear, the words of a job well done. I knew her first as part of Council staff and I was a volunteer. She always welcomed me... into her office, into her space, into her joke, and she was kind and patient. George Ann thought the world of our SPURS, and Murphy-Beth, as she called my daughter. The world is less with her absence.

Meeting you as a kid at the Girl Scout office changed my life. You were the coolest, hippest, wonderfully weird people i had ever met. You showed me it was fine to accept and she the true inner me - not just show the person I thought the world wanted me to be. I wore a thumb ring for many many years because of you - and flipped it to the other hand when I needed to remember important things. You loved big. You showed kindness to the world. You had love for me. Thank you for being apart of my life. There is such a massive void in the universe. You are missed. And I broke the thumb ring back out to honor you.

George Ann was my staff partner for so many things. The girls in Puppetry Troupe absolutely loved her, her tips on their performances, and the songs she taught them! We worked together on Campership. She kept things moving, chased people for missing information and would always talk to Development when we started to run low on money. She bled green and had such an impact on girls and adults. I will miss her and the memories will live on in all our hearts.
