Jeannette Sadler Hastings

Jeannette Sadler Hastings, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her children by her side on March 18, 2015. She was born on May 26, 1924 in Henderson, Texas to Joseph Graham and Docia Winn Sadler. Jeannette earned a BBA from Baylor University in 1945 where she was a member of Delta Alpha Pi which later became the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. She moved to Houston where she met and married George Starr Hastings on October 12, 1946.

Jeannette and George were charter members of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the CLS Bible Study. Her church was the cornerstone of her faithful life. She gave generously of her time, enjoyed her many friendships and especially loved playing bridge. She was a loving and caring person who seemed to touch and enrich the lives of everyone she met.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her beloved husband George; her parents Dr. and Mrs. Sadler, and her cousins Mary Whisenant, Ann Johnston and Catherine Jones. She is survived by her children, George and Nancy Hastings, Joseph and Lin Hastings, Nancy and Larry Dorr, William (Bill) Hastings; grandchildren Andrew and Tialisa Gervais, John and Holly Gervais, Lauryn and Rob Gordon, Lesley Hastings, Nathan and Hunter Hastings; great grandchildren Callen and Easton Gervais, Coen Gervais, and Colton Gordon. Also surviving Jeannette are her sisters in law, Mary Hastings and Jane Hastings and many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided to Jeannette by the Home Health Resource Agency while she resided at the Village of Tanglewood. The family also wishes to thank Memorial Hermann Hospice for their care in the final days of our mother’s life.

A memorial service will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church 717 Sage Road. Houston at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 26, with The Reverend Mary E. Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Martin’s Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.

Jeanette was a wonderful, warm, full of life beautiful person. Lee and I will miss her greatly. May she rest in peace and God Bless her soul.
