On March 9, 2012, Maxie Joe Driskill passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 76. He is preceeded in death by his beloved daughter Gayla Driskill. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy Taylor Driskill, as well as all of his loving children. Joe was a hard working and devoted family man, who loved country music, margaritas, the outdoors, and most of all, his grandbabies.
Joe is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter Pam and husband Lloyd; daughter Christy and husband Jerry; daughter Susan; daughter Julie and husband Marty; and son Damon and wife Penny. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren: Jodi, Arin, Jason, Josh, Amanda, Adam, Ally, Kade, Taylor, Jordan, Noah, Alec, Sydnie, Kyndall and Cameron; as well as great-grandchildren Brett, Austin,
Joe was born in Zephyr, Texas on June 10, 1935 and grew up in and around Brownwood, Texas. He was a star running back for the Brownwood football team and an all-around great athlete. After high school, Joe worked for many years for the Army Corp of Engineers. Ever the West Texas Cowboy, no one will ever forget his unrivaled wardrobe of country fashion that was always authentic, pure Texas.
After marrying Nancy, the two moved their family to Arkansas, where they raised chickens on their farm. The family then returned to Texas, where Joe worked for many years for Wyatt Industries as a foreman/supervisor. Joe then went to work for Compaq Computer Corporation, where he was a Construction Supervisor, overseeing the construction of the company's campus in Tomball. Joe retired from Compaq and spent his retirement tending to his many plants, cooking his world-famous bar-b-q for family and friends, and enjoying his grandchildren.
Joe had a hard and gruff exterior, but those that knew him well knew that he had a kind heart and was really a softie on the inside. No one knew this more than his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. He loved being Paw-Paw and having his grandbabies sit in his lap.
Joe will be missed by all of his family and friends, and the State of Texas has lost one of its true cowboys. Rest in Peace, Joe. God has called you home.

Messenger of God
Oh, Little Butterfly,
Messenger of God,
When I see you in the sky
I cannot help but nod.
You bring me respite
From grief and despair
Every time I see you
Sailing through the air.
You renew my faith
In all God's wondrous plan,
And I know it's all in FAITH,
Not in what I understand.
