In Memory of
Joseph Harley Madison Jr
-

Joseph Harley (Chip) Madison Jr., age 93, of Del Rio, Texas, was called home by his heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 10th after a short illness at the Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Harley and Zelma Madison.

After graduating from Del Rio High School in 1945, he worked for a few years for the railroad. He served during the Korean war conflict in the army as a Chaplain’s assistant. After he was honorably discharged from the army, he attended Baylor University, graduating in 1954. A few years later he met the love of his life Brenda Scott, while attending North Texas University in Denton, Texas. They were married in North Little Rock, Arkansas on August 31, 1958.

He retired from a supervisor position held at the Social Security Administration after nearly 30 years of service. He was devoted to his family. He enjoyed talking for hours to his sisters Jean and Norma. Some of the happiest times were spent with family at the Paisano Baptist Encampment near Alpine, Texas. He loved to sing in the choir and was a member of the Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin, TX until moving to the Texas Panhandle in 1978, where he and Brenda lived until 2014. He seemed to always have a song in his heart and cherished the times when he and Norma would gather to sing family duets during times when they were both home from college.

He was an avid hunter. His father had instilled a love for hunting that he nurtured until several years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Madison, a son, Gordon Madison of Lufkin, TX, two daughters, Deirdre Madison Brothers of Huffman, TX, and Beverly Madison of La Grange, TX, and two grandsons, Shawn and Bradley Madison of Kersey, CO.

A memorial service is planned to celebrate his life at 10 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Huffman, Texas (25503 FM 2100, Huffman , TX 77336).
