In Memory of
Mary Z. Berkheimer
-

Mary Z. Berkheimer of Katy, Texas, passed from this life at the age of 78 on April 14, 2022.  Mary (known as Linda by family and childhood friends) was born on November 3, 1943, in Elkins, West Virginia, to James and Joyce (Brown) Ward. She grew up in Washington, D.C., graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Strayer College before she moved to Northwest Ohio to start her family. She married Curtis Lee Zaerr on May 5, 1963. After she was widowed at the age of 22, Mary moved back East to raise her two young daughters. On April 10, 1969, she remarried (Dale E. Berkheimer). In 1975 Mary returned to the workforce. She worked as a program assistant for the National Endowment for Humanities in Washington, D.C..

Mary is survived by three daughters: Rose (Stephen) Rodriguez, San Antonio, Texas; Nancy Brennan, Ellicott City, Maryland; Bonnie Berkheimer, Denver, Colorado; and one step-daughter, Cindy (Tony) Wolfe, Solomons, Maryland; six grandchildren: Desiree (Ricardo) Venegas, Christian (Sabrina) Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez, Aaron Rodriguez, Faith & Hope Brennan; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by husbands, parents, father and mother-in-law, Wm. Raymond and Inez Zaerr; brother, Stephen Ward; sister, Ann Jerome; brothers and sisters in-law: Dale & Vienna Fielitz, Maurice & Marguerite Zaerr, Wayne & Sue Zaerr, Eugene & Arlene Zaerr; three step-sons: Tony, Mark, and David Berkheimer, step-daughter, Cathy Burleson, grandson, Jeffery Burleson, and nephew, Matthew Ward.

Mary was born into the Catholic faith, attended parochial school during her formative years and later accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, hymn sings, and a bingo game, whenever it was offered. Mary became known as the “Sunshine Lady” at her assisted living community, where she made it her mission to see that every resident received a birthday card.

Mary (Linda) will be remembered fondly by all those who knew and loved her.
