In Memory of
Oscar Barnes Jr
-

Oscar Barnes, Jr. is called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ray as Oscar is known is a lifelong Texas resident. He is Dad to three sons, Jim, Don and Rich Barnes. Donna is a beloved step-daughter.

Ray leaves his daughters-in-law, Dian, Betsy and Karen. His grandchildren (Peter, Lisa, Wayne, Jamie, Christie, Daniel and Jaclyn) survive him, and carry his hope and legacy of Christian belief.

Ray was born to Lessie Dial and James Oscar Barnes near Blytheville, Arkansas on November 24, 1931. He was the fourth child and only son. His sister, Mildred, died before Ray was born. Sisters Bobbie Forbess of Arkansas and Barbara Martin of Florida survive their baby brother.

Ray spent 20 years serving his beloved United States in the U. S. Air Force. He retired and went to work for Weiner's Stores in 1970 until his retirement in 1984.

Ray was not always a good man. He would be the first to confess his sins. In 1984 his life changed for the better when he joined the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. It was during these years of recovery that Ray was introduced again to Christ Jesus. Ray learned to forgive others, himself and worked to improve the lives of others suffering through their addictions. He learned to forgive himself.

His final years were dedicated to loving the Lord and to serving others. He spent his days and nights paying kindness forward by “Twelfth Stepping” men and women wrestling with addictions. Ray made amends to all he believed he had harmed. He prayed for forgiveness and it is given to him. He is well known for saying, “The Lord's will will be done.”

Today Ray sits at the feet of Christ Jesus. Ray is giving glory to Him. Those who knew Ray know he was genuine. He will be missed, but heaven welcomes him. Let us rejoice.

Jim, Rich and Donnie,
I was very sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He loved you all very much and spoke of you often. Os had a love for life and in his own way enjoyed it to the fullest. And to Jim, you served your father well. You did a wonderful job seeing that he was well taken care of.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all
Rose Barnes
