Cypress, Texas – Sally Hormberg, 58, departed to be face to face with the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
Sally was born on October 16, 1963 in Long Beach California to Lowell & Winkie Thomas. The family moved several times, the most significant moves being to Brookings, Oregon and then to Houston, Texas in 1976.
Sally met her husband, Brett, at Berachah Church in 1990 and they were married in 1991. God provided Sally and Brett two wonderful daughters. There wasn’t a more devoted wife and mother than Sally. Her goal was to ensure the girls were brought up in the knowledge of God, knew the sacrifice Christ had made at the cross and what they needed to do to ensure an eternal relationship with Him. At this, Sally was a master, always working biblical stories into what the family did.
In 2004, the family moved to Atlanta to study under another pastor. Far from family and friends, it was a difficult move for Sally but her biblical knowledge ultimately prevailed providing her perfect peace. The family moved back to Texas in 2006 where the girls graduated from both high school and college. During this time, she too excelled in learning as she earned her degree in teaching and was an active member of Country Bible Church. Sally devoted much of her time to The Woods Private School and took pride in the children she taught and the lives she touched. Sally’s favorite activities included playing games and watching movies with family, tending to her garden, and caring for her beloved dog, Mr. Nutter. Sally will always be remembered for her tremendous generosity and thoughtfulness by all who knew her. Her trust in God powered her fight through depression as long as she could, until sadly her pain became overwhelming.
Sally leaves behind a devoted husband, Brett Hormberg, daughters Rachael Hormberg and Ashley Kartman and husband Cole, her parents, Lowell & Winkie Thomas, her sister Winkie Stow and husband Randy, her nieces Jenny Stow and Amanda Garrigan and husband Jake, and great nephews Justin and Luke Garrigan.
She was the best wife and mother one could ask for. Her smile, her voice and her encouragement will be sorely missed and her motivation to diligently study the Word won’t be forgotten. Her constant search for ways to give the Gospel was telling of her caring nature. Sally’s incredible selflessness was the source of inspiration for many in her life. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
A private celebration of life was held for the family on August 30, 2022.
