Bernice Lucille Wheatley Davis was born on March 13, 1923 to Ben Terrell Wheatley and Myrtle Bell Bass of Ridgely, Tennessee in Lake County. Bernice participated and won in many beauty reviews. She played on a girls’ basketball team at Kenton High School and was labeled “one tough guard”. She graduated from Kenton High School and earned her business degree in Jackson, Tennessee with her sister Norene. Her career started at Tilhman Chevrolet as a book keeper. She continued her career at Miland Arsenal, also with her sister. Bernice was married to Grover Cleveland Davis in 1947 and became
a mother and home maker. When her daughters grew older, she worked for her brother at his pharmacy. Throughout her life she continued her book keeping for many different employers serving them for close to 20 years.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Sandra Morrison and husband Charlie Morrison, granddaughter Jennifer Weede and husband Kimball Weede, great grandsons (Nana’s Punkins) Pearson and Tanner Weede, sisters Norene Boyett and Mary Louise Rowlett and many other family and friends who loved and cherished her. She was preceded in death by her husband Grover Davis, daughter Carol Allen, brothers Herman Wheatley, Brown Wheatley, Joe Wheatley and George Wheatley, and sister Velma Dedmon.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 9am to 11am with a funeral service to follow at 11am at Beresford Funeral Services 13501 Alief Clodine, Houston 77082. Interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston 77079.
Bernice was a beautiful person who wore many hats outside of her career. All who knew her was truly blessed by having her in their life. She will be missed.
