In Memory of
Brooke Donovan Holloway
-

Brooke Donovan Holloway, a lifelong resident of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 17, 2025, in Houston, Texas after just celebrating his 80th birthday on New Years Day. Brooke’s charm and jovial personality will be missed and remembered by his family and friends.

Brooke began his life in 1945 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA to parents Jack Holloway and Norma Schumann Holloway.  After his younger brother, Paul, was born in 1947, their family moved around frequently, due to his father being in the Army, even briefly living in Japan.  Brooke attended Azusa High School and then graduated from Kearny High School.  Shortly thereafter, Brooke was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.  Brooke returned home and married his high-school sweetheart, Patty Trantham, and graduated from San Diego State University in 1973 with a BS in Real Estate/Finance.  Brooke and Patty divorced in 1971 and then he met the beautiful Mary Vierkant. They married in 1975 and had their son, Garrett Donovan, in 1977. After he and Mary divorced, at Brooke’s twenty-year high school reunion in 1984, he reconnected with Patty and they remarried. Their daughter, Jane, was born in 1986. Throughout his professional life, Brooke worked in lending and real estate at Security Pacific National Bank, Percy H. Godwin Company, Pacific Scene, and the Great American Development Company.

Brooke was an avid sports fan and loved supporting the SDSU Aztecs, enjoyed playing Over-The-Line at Fiesta Island, watching the Little League World Series, and rooting for his favorite football teams. But more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his children and friends.  He lived in Pt. Loma until 1997, had a short stint in Rancho Bernardo, but then moved back to the beach (Ocean Beach) in 2000.  He always had an entrepreneurial spirit and in 2000 he achieved his dream of starting his own company, called US Portfolio Services, a successful lending resource company focused on broker’s price opinions throughout the nation.  He loved living in OB and built a group of friends, specifically his Shades buddies.  Brooke had a major stroke in 2005 and was forced into retirement, but that didn’t slow him down.  Even with limited speech, he kept up with all his friends in OB and continued charming strangers.  He eventually moved to an assisted living facility in 2017, then to Houston in late 2024.

He is survived by his son, Garrett Holloway (wife Catherine), daughter, Jane Nodskov (husband Keith), grandchildren, Claire and Nolan and many cousins and friends.

Brooke will be missed by his family and friends, but will be remembered for his charismatic personality, sparkling bright blue eyes and youthful spirit.
