In Memory of
Carmen Margarita D'Amico
-

It is with heavy hearts of sorrow that we announce the passing of Carmen Margarita D’Amico, who left us on January 14th, 2025. Carmen was a wonderful wife, mother, and sister to her family. She was known for her boundless compassion, concern for the welfare of others, and unwavering dedication to the nursing profession.

Carmen was born on April 15th, 1947, in New York City, New York, to Edmund and Carmen Sweeney. She was surrounded by the love and guidance of her family, which included her parents and her brothers, Eddie and Dick Sweeney.

Carmen was a straight A student graduating high school as its Salutatorian. Being detail oriented and technologically skilled led her to a career as an executive legal secretary for over 20 years. Eventually she pursued her dream of working in healthcare and studied nursing at Houston Baptist University, where she graduated with honors and a Master of Nursing. She began her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the field of Hospice. She also worked in other specialties including Oncology at the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston before retiring in 2017. During her career she contributed significantly to the nursing community in Houston and even briefly served as an adjunct professor at the Prairie View A&M School of Nursing.

In high school while attending a “Sweet 16” birthday party, Carmen met the love of her life Richard. After dating for several years, they were married in 1968. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, perseverance, and shared dreams. Their union was blessed with four children: Ric their oldest son; and triplet children Sharon, Craig, and Alex. Carmen was a very devoted wife and parent, always putting her family's needs above her own. She was a great listener, and she worked hard to raise her family with love, perseverance, and guidance.

Carmen had a wide range of interests and hobbies. She really enjoyed painting, drawing, sewing, quilting, and other crafts. She was a lifetime learner with a strong interest in history, culture, and social issues. She also had an immense passion for traveling and exploration, frequently traversing across the globe with her husband Rich.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Carmen’s life will be held on January 28, 2025, at 3pm in the Chapel at Houston’s First Baptist Church – The Loop. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her honor to an art/crafts, nursing, or other benevolent organization you feel represents her life.
Rest in the peace and joy of the Lord forever, Carmen. Your light and love will always live on in our hearts.

Carmen was an amazing person loved many things, , including reading. We grew up together, and often spent part of the summer together. We did this for many years till she went off to college. We. Both married and started families in the next few years, and while physically apart kept in touch as well as we could.
She was a kind soul with a smile that would light up a room, and will be greatly missed by her loving family and all those whom she touched.
Rest well my beautiful cousin ❤️

When my father Eddie passed away in 1977, Aunt Carmen was the extension of him and his family that I always cherished.
Even though we had lost touch these last 20+ years, I thought of her often and loved her and her family as a niece and cousin.
My deepest sympathy and thoughts to Uncle Rich on the loss of his beloved wife.
