Celebrating the Life of Cecilia Ann Miller

Sunrise: June 20, 1947

Sunset: March 31, 2024

Cecilia Ann Guerrero was born on June 20, 1947 to Cleotilde & Leonardo Guerrero of Alvin, Tx.

Her Life

As a young girl from Alvin, Texas, she moved to Houston and united in marriage to Steve Miller Sr., with whom she had two sons.  Life became her teacher as she became a young widow but, she knew she still had to raise her children. Raising two boys in Fifth ward was not easy, but even harder as a widowed, handicapped mother but she always provided everything they needed and more.

God always put people around her and He always provided their needs. Her life’s pride and joy came from watching her sons become the men they are. Her other greatest joy came in the form of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing would make her smile more than just being around them. I’m sure each of them felt they were her favorite. With every addition to the family, they always made their way to her arms.

In her younger years, she has cared for so many children. Her home was like a daycare for not only her own grandchildren, but for family members, friends, & neighbors alike. Cecilia has always been Gentle in spirit; Kind in nature; with a giving heart. She would give away what she needed if she could help you. Her life touched many.

Her Love-

She loved her Boys! She loved her Family! She loved her Church! She loved the color Red!

As a woman of Faith, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and has been a committed member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. She has served in several different ministries within her church from the choir; to the usher board; the Mission movement, and wherever she was needed or able over the years.

Honestly, she loved the people around her! She probably never met a stranger, and could easily make a friend. Everywhere she lived, she always developed lasting friendships. She knew her neighbors, and they knew her. They would engage in long conversations, whether on the phone or at the office. She always had an encouraging word. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at “The Center,” also called The Lighthouse of Houston. This is an activity center for seniors that offered daily programming, such as arts, crafts, and fieldtrips. She made more friends there, and it was one of the highlights of her conversation.

Her Legacy

She is an Overcomer! She never made excuses or let any obstacle stop her. Being born with a disability did not limit her. Her life is evidence of the God she served, and her Spirit will live on in her children’s children and those to come. To God Be the Glory! His Amazing grace has led her home, but her impact will never be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, Cleotilde and Leonardo Guerrero; her husband, Steve Miller Sr.; and her sister, Marcia Renee Guerrero Lozano.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her sons, Steve Miller Jr.(Melanie) of Richmond, Tx, Frank Miller (Roxchelle), of Rosharon, Tx; Her grandchildren: Ashley, De'Marquis, Deja, Tra’Nisha, Tierra, Ashaya, Christinai, D’Erica, Christopher; 7 Great-grandchildren: Jordan, Jaidon, Josiah, Za’Riah, Ariella, Christian, and Javeon; two Brothers, Sam Guerrero, Orlando Guerrero (Renee) of Alvin, Tx; and a host of nieces, nephews & relatives.

Funeral Services are planned for Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church (3401 Jeanetta St, Houston, TX 77063).  Visitation is at 9 AM and the funeral will start at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery (1310 N. Main St, Pearland, Texas 77581).
