In Memory of
Cleo McLane Heuschkell
-

Cleo McLane Heuschkell, 92, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Cleo was born on July 2, 1923 in Floresville, Texas, to Guy and Stella McLane, and was the middle daughter of three girls. Cleo is preceded in death by her husband Frank Heuschkell and her two sisters, Genevieve Linton and Doris Schomaker. She is survived by three daughters, Stella Heuschkell of Houston, Priscilla (Tim) Ferguson of Ft. Worth, and Liz (Tommy) Bridges of Houston. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Sarah (Matt) Tyson, Matthew (Lauren) Ferguson, Taylor and Nash Ferguson, Ryan (Amanda) Bridges, Grant Bridges (fiancé, Kayla Giles), and five great-grandchildren: Kinsey, Katie and Caroline Tyson, Sam and Will Ferguson.

Cleo graduated with honors from high school at the age of 16. After attending Business school, she worked in several offices in downtown San Antonio. After marrying, she became a homemaker, and being a wife to Frank and mother to her three daughters was her most treasured role in life. Frank was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad and in 1970, the family was transferred to Houston. After Frank passed away in 1980, Cleo remained in Houston.
Cleo had a servant’s heart and was happiest serving others. She enjoyed volunteering each week for 31 years at Spring Branch Medical Center. Many of Cleo’s treasured friendships were ones she made through the years with fellow volunteers at the hospital. Cleo was a gifted seamstress and she loved sewing for her family and friends. For years, she used her talent to sew beautiful costumes for the Christmas Pageant at Houston’s First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed sewing baby blankets for Project Linus which were donated to local hospitals to comfort ill children and tiny angels.

Cleo’s strong faith in the Lord was the most important part of her life. After being a member of First Baptist Church for over 30 years, Cleo joined Tallowood Baptist Church in 2012. She enjoyed making new friends and getting involved. She joined the Prayer ministry and was honored to pray and write notes of encouragement to others. She crocheted beautiful prayer shawls for the Prayer Shawl Ministry that were given to the homebound. Since 2012, she crocheted 442 caps that were given to the homeless through the Street Reach Ministry.

All who knew Cleo were blessed with her sweet smile, kind heart, soft-spoken voice, gentle spirit and the joy she found in serving the Lord. We will miss her, cherish our memories of her and all she meant to us. But our love and gratitude for who she was and what she taught us will always remain in our hearts. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with precious loved ones and friends who are rejoicing in the reunion.

Cleo’s family would like to express their appreciation for your prayers and support during the time of her brief illness. We are so blessed to have you in our lives and grateful for your friendship. A special thanks to Dr. Kiran Gandhi and Dr. Joel Abramowitz for many years of excellent medical care for Cleo.

A celebration of Cleo’s life will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church located at 555 Tallowood, Houston, Texas 77024.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a memorial donation
be made in Cleo’s name to the Street Reach Ministry of Tallowood Baptist Church.
